Barclays identity verification?

I received a “preselected” offer letter from Barclays for their travel card, I applied and they couldn’t approve me on the phone and then I received a letter asking for a copy of my drivers license and a utility bill showing my address. I thought it was strange has anyone else had this?

Nothing strange IMO. This is pretty standard for Barclays when additional verification or information is required.

Re: Barclays identity verification?

Oh ok. I have about 10 credit cards, all with major companies (not with Barclay’s though) and I’ve never had this happen before! I’m glad to know it’s SOP though. Maybe they are more cautious about identity verification because it can be used overseas with no foreign transaction fees?

Re: Barclays identity verification?

Banks often do this if they can't verify your identity/address based on your application and the info on your credit reports.

For example, if you move, then apply for a new card before the new address is reported on your credit reports by your existing creditors, the new creditor will need to verify your information.

Also, discrepancies on your reports could cause this.  If you haven't moved recently, you may want to pull all 3 of your reports and check them for any errors or discrepancies.
