Re: Best CC for Thin Files???

Discover. They love thin files, they want to be your main card for life lol.

Amex is thin file friendly too with good scores, in my experience.

They both have prequalify pages, check them out! Amex prequals are solid, and discover ones are if they give a single apr % or a small range.
Kind of have everything I want now, creditwise. Undeliberately gardening until I have some spending to do and find a 100,000 Amex Platinum offer lol

Started my credit journey August 2016, after abstaining from credit for years after some poor financial choices in high school. Started with scores in the 580s. Current scores 11/6/18 - EQ: 754 TU: 757 EX: 743

Re: Best CC for Thin Files???

My first card was a chase FU with a low limit

Some people like discover it

I'd stay away from capital one starter cards or subprime lenders unless you have no other choice

Re: Best CC for Thin Files???

As others have said.. Discover, Amex, Cap One..... Really fond of Discover as a builder card....

Is your FICO actually reporting..... Know you have AUs but sometimes FICOs do not generate untill  your own tradelines have history...

Also sign up for Discovers Credit Scorecard for a free FICO and to put you on their radar.....

If you cant sub for CS or no score reports.. You might need a secured card ......

Re: Best CC for Thin Files???

I started with a Discover It Chrome(secured) with virtually no history. After 8 months it graduated to an unsecured card.

Re: Best CC for Thin Files???

I would say Discover and Capital One are known to be top picks for thin files.

Re: Best CC for Thin Files???

I would do Discover or Cap1. Maybe incorporate some store cards to build it up some more. Comenity bank is really lenient

Re: Best CC for Thin Files???

Discover is an absolutely terriffic introduction to the credit card game. Even their secured card which you can get with no credit history will still give you 2 percent at gas and restaurants and 1 percent everywhere else. The catch is that they will start you at 24 percent interest rate (but this is still a little bit better than a store card). I started out with a $500 Discover It Secured 20 months ago, graduated after 7 months, PC'd to the regular IT and now have a $3500 credit limit. By their chat feature, I was able to a week ago take my APR down from a 24.24 percent to a 19.24 percent. Discover has an intuitive website, efficient customer service and payment options. The rewards are easy to use and cash out and they give you lots of choices.

AMEX likes a little thicker file than Discover (could be a good 2nd card) but I think that AMEX is more generous with their credit limits. If you are a grocery shopper, I'd go with an Amex BCE. If you are a traveler and want an airline or hotel card, I'd go with the basic Hilton card or the Delta card. I have heard that Amex Delta is the easiest Amex to get with good credit limits.

You'll want to have around a year credit history for Chase and Citi.

Re: Best CC for Thin Files???

I got approved for three chase cards on a thin file.
Go for them first since they have the 5/24 rule. You can research what it is.
Because if you open other accounts, you may not be able to get any of the main cards. Unlimited Freedom, Freedom, Sapphire Reserve, Ink are the most popular cards with great rewards.
