Best Denial Reason i've ever gotten :)

Got a Barclay's Rewards MC and Apple Rewards cards a few weeks ago. Asked for immediate CLI and was denied. Today i got the letter for the denial and usually i am used seeing reasons like Not enough credit history, deragotary items, and all that stuff. But since starting rebuilding in may, i got the best denial reason one can ask for:

Dear XXXXX

We are unable to grant you request for a credit line increase to your account for the following reason(s):

- High amount of credit available from other accounts

And my revolving line of credit is about $30K and utilization is under 1% (Edit: Total Revolving Accounts)

TU Fico was 641 as of the day i applied for 2 barclay card and on the denied letter it is 661

Re: Best Denial Reason i've ever gotten :)

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your denial, So here is what i see, some lenders want to see we you handle ours  available credits, some times we have a great credit available and we dont useit, so when we apply for more credit, the lender sees that wy we want more credit line  if we dont eveen use what we already have it, so its weird how lenders sees things,

best of luck

stay blesed

With this one i have already run more than the credit limit within a couple weeks, on both cards ($2000 & $1000) and they already told me use it, pay it and we will give you cli. But my main thing with this post was that i am actually happy to get a denial letter for a cli request not due to tthe fact that my credit is messed up, but i do have too much credit. So i actually feel kinda happy with this denial. One other reason probably is that i have under 1% utilization. I spend probably about $10K on CC if not more but pay them off, for the most part. So they dont see any balance reported, thus assuming i do not use enough. With the barclays cards, i have already used them to the full and paid them off and starting round 2, so those cards will get some heavy usage until they give me a cli Smiley Happy

hi Zoidberg Smiley Happy ( I love the show by the way )

I did get approved for the cards, just no the instant cli request, but i am ahppy at least for the fact that denial reason is not charge offs and stuff but having too much credit.

Barclays like heavy usage and bigger chunk of payments, so those cards will get used, and paid off, and i know a cli will come fairly quick. My Dillards AmEx i got right after these cards is $4K limit and i will tell them it is not very connvenient for me to use the card, wait for transactions to post, then pay it off, wait for the payments to post, just so that i can use them again, so they either give me a cli or i can keep them for my uti, or for small charges, and move on to my AmEx. I do use the cards for my business, so each transaction is usually around $750 to $2500. so it really makes it inconvenient for me that  i can not run every purchase thru these cards due to the credit limit.

If you misunderstood, $30K is my total revolving accounts, not just one card.

I whish it was Smiley Happy But my income is self employeed, around $75K annual.

Edit: Might be because as of May 2015 i only had $500 in revolving accounts. So most of those accounts are opened recently. And that does not even include the recent major CLi's ( Lowe's $300 to $5K, Belk $300 to $5K) and Dillard's AmEx with a SL of $4K

I am thinking that this might be the reason I am getting no auto love from Barclay.  I've had the account for about 15 months or so, but no auto CLI that many have experienced at 6 and 12 months.  I have about $90K in available credit on revolving accounts, but only allow about $10 a month to report on one account.  They may not like my available credit either, as you have experienced.

Year 2012: All Scores in the 520 range, during a foreclosure, CC Settlement and high UTIL. Very ugly days...
Sept 2024: EX8: 847; EQ8: 850; TU8: 848 -- Middle Mortgage Score: 821
In My Wallet: Discover $73.7K; Cap1 Venture $51.7K; Amex ED $38K; Amex Optima $2.5K; Amex Delta Gold $18K; Citi Costco $24.5K; Cap1 Plat $8.4K; Barclay $7K; Chase Amazon $6K; BoA Plat $21.6K; Citi TY Pref $22K; US Bank $4K; Dell $5K; Care Credit $6.5K. Total Revolving CL: $300K+
My UTIL: Less than 1% - Only allow about $20 a month to report, on one account. .

Probably you are right. Because my first app was for Rewards MC and was a denial and i had to recon it in the morning. And the rep was really nice, so we chatted quite a bit as he went over my Cr. And i asked him what they would like to see if when the time comes and i request a cli, ofcourse besides timely payments. He said they would like to see usage, and being paid in full, or at least more than the minumum amount. Then i told him, i understand, it does not make any sense for someone to have so much credit, use very little, and then come and ask for more credit. He said yes.

That's why within 2 weeks i have already run about $1500 on a $1K limit card and almost $2K on the $2K limit card. I will wait a few months and see where it goes. I appreciate the fact that they were my first real cc, not secured, not store card, but a prime cc, but at the same time, if someone else comes my way and says here is $5K SL, use our card, depending on which company it is, i dont have any reason to not take their offer. All i want is my Rewards MC to go up $2K limit and then i will be happy. I just got my $4K Dillards Amex, less than a week and already ran over $1K, so i know it is easier for me to get a CLI on it then any other card, for the fact that it is backed by wells fargo and i do bank with wells fargo. So if Barclay goes too cheap or takes forever for a $500 CLI, they will end up in my sock drawer Smiley Happy

Re: Best Denial Reason i've ever gotten :)

why not use it in place of your debit card for a month or two?  1% is low. I mean I know for reporting, u should have 3 cards, 2 reporting no balance, and have a balance of $2 on 1 card... but you would probably benefit from showing more use.  1% of 30k is only $300.

Use cards more?
