Re: Blue Cash Everyday Denial... Recon? Hmm...

OK I guess its up to me to be the contrary voice.

Id wait.  If you reconed, odds are your SL would be $500 and your mom would be stuck with a bucketed card tht would grow very slowly.

Id wait 60 days and try to push the EX FICO score to 700. Your close to it already. Even of you get to 690ish, it could be a BIG difference down the road with  a non bucketed account and a $1000 - $1500 SL  Your SL would easily be more then what you might get on recon

I never take no for the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd answer.  It doesn't hurt to call and try a few different reps.  680 isn't the worst score for BCE but, higher would have been better.  If you got the letter with the reason codes on it then we could probably provide more insight as to more than "FICO Score" reason.

https://www262.americanexpress.com/eaol/welcome.do  There should be a full document if you click on the status that gives the denial codes.

I get your point if we're talking human recon, but do Amex reps really decide anything? I think all they do is resubmit the app, which means the decision is not likely to change.  So while it may not hurt to keep trying, it's likely also a waste of time.

I would probably just wait and reapply so you don't get stuck with a $500 SL that won't budge, which does occasionally happen w/ borderline Amex approvals.

I would call them and definitely recon it. I’d even say she’d take a 500 or 1000 CL. Amex customer service is starting to slack, so you may have to call a couple of times and ask for a supervisor.  You may even have to send a letter to the executive office.

My interpretation of "Denial for score" is that they dont like whatever is it that's keeping it at 680.

Amex will approve with negatives on CR, but with those approval cases, I'd expect cold shoulder and punishing silence for a while.

Instead of attempting a recon, maybe you should attempt to "fix" whatever is it that's holding her scores on low(ish) end (usually derogs and utilization, then apply again later.

Her utilization is higher than we would like it to be. Not bad, but not great either. (Around 30%) I honestly don't know what else they could be hung up on, but I know there are a laundry list of possibile reasons. Thanks as always @Remedios. We talked about it and decided not to recon. She has a few really good cards, so this one is not a huge loss.

Thank you for all of the responses. We decided not to recon the application at this time. Everyone's advice was appreciated.
