In our recent experience, AMEX has been very generous. My DW was approved for the BCE in March this year for a $10k SL and a 720ish EX FICO 8. That is with a BK from 7 years ago. We asked for a 3x CLI around day 65, and was approved (to $30k). Very generous indeed!
We have a med school student DD that applied earlier this month and was given a $8k SL with a EX FICO 8 of around 790. We didn't know much about credit until very recently, so she didn't have a credit file at all until late last year. She was added as an AU on our 4 cards back in October 2018, and was approved for her first CC in Feb this year (a Disco Student card). This AMEX is her 2nd card.
Same story for our 18yo college bound DD. No credit history until recently, and received her first CC in Feb this year (again, a Disco Student card). She, too, had a EX FICO 8 of around 790 at the time of applying for AMEX BCE and was approved for a $2k SL. Only entered income as $10k, so we were pleasantly surprised of the approval much less a $2k limit.
In summary, I believe AMEX will be one of the better issuers to apply for a card with room to grow. We used the referral program to get our DD's cards, and the $75 referral for each posted within days of their approvals! The SUB also posts quickly once you achieve the threshold. However, the cashback redemption seems to be a bit slower than other companies. Redemption is not immediately available and will require a statement or two to become available for use.
EX Fico 8 - 692. 6K limit. Pleasantly surprised.
Will definitely try the 3x CLI after 61 days
started with $10k and just 2 weeks ago after having the card for 1 year asked for 30k and they countered with $27.4k
I applied on 7/3/2019. I check the prequal and only the 1.5% card offered up with up to 2k CL with the APR range. So when I saw that, I tried to go for the Blue Cash Everyday and I ended up approved for 2k CL (APR @ 23.24%).
Can't wait for the 61 day mark.
EX FICO 8 Score: 743
2 Indiv. Credit Cards
1 Joint Car Loan
1 Builder Loan
1 AU Credit Card
Glad to see Amex will be my 5th account. (I personally don't count AU) :eyes:
