I applied for a Bank of America Cash Rewards card, but my app just says it's in review.
I have a fraud alert on my credit report, so I know that they'll need to verify me.
I tried calling a couple numbers from the backdoor thread, but didn't get anywhere. The "app status" number just plays an automated message that says it may take up to 30 days to review your account and directs you to the website and then hangs up. The customer satisfaction number just transfers you to the app status number and plays the automated message again.
I didn't think that the recon line sounded appropriate since I haven't been denied yet as far as I know, I just need to verify. Any advice?

When did you apply? Has it been 30 days yet? How did you apply? Online, phone or in person? Do you already have a relationship with them?
Im asking so I can better understand your situation. I applied over the phone last August and I also have my file locked. i am a BofA checking customer. i was told the approval could be instant or take up to 30 days. first rep ran my file and said they would notify me by mail. I called back a few days later and their system had updated since my app and a new rep told me my credit file was locked and to unlock and let them know. I unlocked my file and called back and resubmitted my application. This time instant approval. I also received a letter in the mail about the freeze. That took longer to arrive.
try calling the application line and asking for an update if it's been a few days. The reconsideration line should work too. You just need someone to access your file and see the reason for the delay.

I am an existing BoA customer (have an Americard with them) and I applied online like 1 hour ago! I just didn't think that they were going to process it until they verify my identity due to the fraud alert, so I wanted to know if there was someone I could call to verify or if I just have to wait until someone calls me. For other cards, I've just called a number immediately after the app and had someone verify me so that the app could proceed. But calling the numbers for BoA did not get me to someone to do that. Just seeing if I should be patient, or if there's another number that I should try.

You could try calling in with your current card and when you finally get a customer service representative on the line explain your situation and see if they can transfer you over to the correct department. Dunno if that would be applications or maybe fraud team in this case
I think you should call back. Is a fraud alert the same as freezing / locking your file? I ended up having to unfreeze my account and reapply.

IME it's handled by the fraud team. When the fraud team is involved with verification turnaround can be very slow, 2-3 weeks.

No, it doesn't inhibit the ability to pull a credit reports. It's an annotation placed on your credit reports that triggers an enhanced verification process by the issuer when there is an application for credit.
Fraud alerts are shared across the major CRAs so if a fraud alert is placed on 1 report it is supposed to be propogated and placed on your reports from the other 2 major CRAs.
For anyone who finds this message in the future and is in the same situation, I called the recon number and let them know that I had a fraud alert on my credit report and asked if they could verify me so that I didn't have to wait for a letter to come in the mail. They said that they could, and I was able to get my identity verified and once that was done, I was instantly approved for the card.
I used this number from the backdoor list:
BofA: 888-762-5486 (App Recon - Credit Analyst) ~cmm89
