BofA Blacklist?

I have been on the verge of apping for BofA CCR, and I was going through some old stuff from in my garage from years past. Long and short, I cam across some old bills/receipts while looking for some old trading logs. And then I remembered, I am pretty sure I might have burned them years ago.

I am fairly certain that in 2009 I had a checking account with them during my days of being a disaster financially. If memory serves, I overdrafted the **bleep** out of account playing online poker and at one point it was around $1,500 in the red, I think I remember them closing the account, but not sure if they ever came after me for the money. I mean, I'm sure they did but I don't remember.

This obviously doesn't curry favor for an approval Smiley Embarassed. Is there a way to check this? And is there any chance they aren't holding a grudge?

Regardless of whether or not I apply for the card, I'll take care of the $1,500 for the sake of any future relationship.

I did the same. It'd been so long I didn'tt remember having a line of credit with them, but I was looking over my bk papers from years ago and it showed about 10k that was included in my first bk. I couldn't even say if it was a PLOC or actual credit card. In any case, I'd try their pre-quals (which I know are not great anyway) and even tried app'ing with a hard pull, no go. It's only until a few months after seeing the old discharge that I realized they'd most likely blacklisted me. Could've saved me a pull had I realized it sooner.

Agree with your making them whole for $1500. I'd do the same for that amount. Hopefully they'll let you back in. As for currently being on a blacklist... that'd be hard to tell. You could get a denial and it could simply be a denial. If you burned them via a checking account, you could pull your ChexSystems report to see if it's clear. If it is, then you'd at least be certain any negs are only in BofA's records.

Thanks for the info! I have never pulled a Chexsystems report before, good to know. The only thing I saw on there are some inquiries I guess, I didn't see anything that was flagged as negative, granted I'm not familiar with the report but it looked ok. Maybe I'll call BofA and see if they have record of the money owed.

Be sure to let us know how the call went - this may help others and will serve as a DP.

Keep in mind that BoA is not exlusive to Chex. They are part of EWS and you'd likely need to check there as well.

It's fairly possible they may have a record of it, but it is doubtful an agent could tell you whether (if the record is found or not) that would influence the decision for a CC. Only way to know for sure is when you pull the trigger. More than likely, it may have aged and may no longer be applicable to a credit card or loan decision.

ChexSystems is definitely an interesting one. I'd previously hadn't paid much attention to them, but do so now because GS looked at my ChexSystems report for my Apple Card approval. Also, I've read there are credit unions that are CS sensitive when applying for membership, and since I want to build more credit union relationships (to app their credit cards), I'm even more careful with my ChexSystems report. I really do think, because my CS report had no hard inquiries on it (GS being the first) it may have been part of the reason for my approval. Also as @FinStar mentioned they are not exlusive to CS, they are EWS (I'm not familiar with EWS).

Don't forget you can also FREEZE ChexSystems as well.

On a different tangent, going down the ChexSystems rabbit hole made me discover LexisNexis (Sagestream) and they will have more information on you than your childhood photo album. And that report is FREEZE-able also. Kind of a pain because first they snail mail you a report with a PIN and website link to view your report. And to FREEZE they snail mail you a PIN also.

I'm paranoid about identitfy theft as myFICO's darkweb monitoring feature regularly tells me that my SSN, email, phone# were leaked (most likely t-mobile leak or equifax leak) and have been used for nefarious reasons to no avail because all of my reports are frozen. Thank goodness we can do most of these things online nowadays.
