I received a pre-approval from Comenity for the Bread Cashback Amex last week, and I applied. I was excited because in less than 7 days I got a letter in the mail asking me to call them back, which I did. The rep only asked me to verify my address and DOB. Then, she put me on hold for approx. 2-3 minutes. She came back and said that I should get a decision in the mail within 7-10 business days. I asked her if the application was denied, and she said that her job was only to verify some information and forward it to the right department so they could continue with the process. I told her that other applicants have called with the same letter and got a response right away, but she insisted that she could not provide me with any additional information. Not being negative/pessimist, but it's more likely that I will get a denial letter; it is what it is.
You probably got declined if they didn't approve you during the phone call. I'm surprised that they didn't send you a text message to confirm your phone number.
So, what happened? Did the exact same thing to me. No phone call or letter yet since I just prequalified but received the dreaded 10-14 day wait.
My pre-approval for the Bread Cashback was denied. They stated that they could not verify my identity, but I think that was a lame excuse because I applied for the Bread Rewards after I called them back, and I was approved. I guess one cannot have both the Cashback and the Rewards cards at the same time, who knows? Hopefully, you'll get a letter asking to call them back to continue the application. I kindly suggest you apply for the Bread Rewards AMEX, it has the option to pre-qualify. It was a soft pull for me. They only checked my identity with Experian. Wish you the best of luck. https://www.breadfinancial.com/en/bread-rewards-credit-card.html
That's the one I applied for. Hopefully get the phone number letter to call instead of denial. Just frustrating to be prequalified and then denied.
