After the house closes (whatever date that may be) I plan on app'ing for at least 2 cards.
Cards I really want:
1. NFCU cashRewards
2. Discover IT
3. Amex BCE
4. Chase Amazon Prime
Scores:
Fico 8's: Eq 700, TU 697, Ex 653. Bankcard 8 scores about the same, older Bankcard scores in 730's except for EX in 650's. 2 old settled CO's with Cap1 and Premier from 2012. No collections except EX from accounts that are not even mine but are paid anyway (thus my low EX scores). No lates in at least 39 months (a student loan that was consolidated - long story).
HHI: $160k's
NFCU is a definite and I feel pretty good about getting a high SL at a good rate with them.
Discover sent me an offer that seems solid with 13-16% IR. Feeling good about this one.
Amex prequals me for BCE and Everyday, but EX is my weak file at the 650's and the IR is 23%. I would use for groceries and gas and PIF anyway, but that IR!
We live in a remote area so we buy a lot from Amazon. I just joined and made a household with my wife. Chase does not show any prequals for me at all (says I may have opted out but I don't remember this so maybe they just don't like my profile - but the wife's credit is worse and she got a CFU at $5k SL).
I am anxious to get some cards for various reasons and thought about going on a crazy app spree. I've reconsidered because 1. I don't want to be turned down and 2. I don't want to be saddled with low limits and high interest.
So for now my strategy will be to stick with solid offers (Discover) and good bets (NFCU). I expect my scores to continue to climb (when I joined here mostly 590's) as more baddies fall off and I continue with good credit practices. Good offers will come. Until then (I think) I can wait. Patience.
P.S. If Chase/Amazon offers a sweet deal though....but that counts, I guess, and I honestly may try anyway, but all others can wait.
