I just did a pre-approval for the Amazon VS (Chase … I didn’t realize they had a pre-approval). I was denied due to them not being able to access my CR.Not sure what you mean. Are you saying you were denied for the card, or just that you didn't get preapproved?
In either event you should certainly lift the EQ freeze.
I didn't get pre-approved. I didn't do the full CC application, just the pre-approval.
Yes, I lifted the EQ freeze after the pre-approval was denied.
Up thread it was mentioned Chase would pull Experian. I lifted the freezes on Experian and Transunion but not Equifax.
They do different things. Sometimes they double pull. If I were you I would lift the freeze on EQ, then if you were actually denied for the card, call up and try to straighten it out with them. If you just didn't get the preapproval, I think you're wasting your time to try to get a new preapproval, since those are usually based on older soft pulls. I would just go ahead and apply.
That's what I was intending, to just do the regualar application process (I did try the pre-approval again after the EQ freeze was lifted, but was again still denied due to 'access of CRA'. On another thread in this forum a member wrote that denial due to problems with CRA access is a well known issue (quirk?) with this Amazon cc, even if no freeze exists.
Does denial of a pre-approval mean anything in such an instance? Is it indicative of problable denial for the CC (quirk or no quirk)?
So now I’m wondering if they do indeed pull Equifax and my CR was denied due to a freeze (I have no other Chase accounts)? I just requested a lift ont the Equifax freeze and will try the pre-approval again shortly (sign-up promo ends today).
It also made me wonder if Chase accesses any of these other secondary CRAs because I have a value recollection of placing a freeze on Innovus (or was it LexusNexus) some years ago when I was freezing everything, but I have no record of that or account info regarding these agencies.
I think you're overthinking this, and overestimating the importance of minor credit reporting agencies.
That could very well be.
I'm not under or over estimating their significance: I'm thoroughly ignorant of their significance. Clueless. I read a post recently mentioning secondary CRAs and approvals and frankly I've not given any thought to secondary CRAs (or even made the effort to research further) other than asking the one question. It's now in the rear view mirror.
Could it be for ex. that a freeze on Innovus has interfered with my pre-approval? Or Equifax? Or both? Or is it something else?

I thought one benefit of the app spree was for increasing possible approvals?
Of course if you shoot at a number of targets your odds of hitting one might increase. But that's no way to apply for credit.
As mentioned my criterion in decreasing importance is a..) to increase my CL, b.) diversify the types of cards I hold, c.) obtain sign-up bonuses, d.) no fees (or fees canceled out by bonuses/rewards), e.) rewards (if spending threshold is low), and f.) general good terms and reputation. I figured it would be useful to inquire and identify a pool of CCs that best meet that criteria and then winnow that list down to the ones that I have a good shot of being approved for. Then with those finalists in mind, plan an application strategy (for ex. in what order to apply for the cards, timing, useful prerequisites to have in place before applying for certain CCs, etc.) My ignorance to these answers is the motivation for this thread.
Well I just went through and applied for the Amazon VS card (Chase).
Result:
"Unfortunately, an immediate decision about your application cannot be provided as it requires further review. You will be notified in writing about the status of your application within 30 days.
Please do not re-submit your application."
Dissatisfied with that result I called them. They asked some security questions then sent me an email with instructions to upload ID docs, which I did. Now I suppose I need to wait and see.
My Experian score dropped 12 points to 775.
OK.
I just received an approval email for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card.
$3k credit limit (that's a start at least and icnreased my total CL from $2k to $5k)
Received the $200 sign-up bonus (Amazon GC).
I now have:
Discover Card $2k CL.
Visa Card (Chase) $3k CL.
Anyone have suggestions on what cards to target next?
I suppose I should consider the Chase Sapphire Preferred if I can figure out a way to meet the spending requirements for the full reward bonus.
(I’m also seeing a $200 bonus for opening a Chase Total Checking account with a direct deposit requirement. I’ll have a look at that).
The SavorOne could be an easy card for you to get even with the 3 pulls.

Once again, be wary of opening too many new accounts after your Chase approval...
