I would drop both as they continue reporting on your file for 10 years and get some more friendlier credit cards in your lineup

+1! They don't need to be open to contribute to your AAoA/AoOA. Get rid of those sub-prime cards because it sounds like you've outgrown them.

Re: CC Denial interesting reason

Thanks, everyone.  I'm going to drop those two cards.  I think the annual fee for each hits here in Jan/Feb, so that will save me $99 each.  I did go ahead and apply for Discover It and got approved for $1k CL!  Not bad, I guess, but man it's hard getting in the door of these CC companies vs store charge cards.  Time to move on from those junk cards tho!

@Anonymous I got denied for Amex today due to not having a 750 or better score. My EX score is 748. I would look into discover prequalify or even chase or your primary bank.

You don't need a 750 score to get an Amex. There are plenty of DPs on the forums of people getting approved with scores in the 640+ range. Also, score isn't all they look at, nor would they deny you solely based on score. They look at your credit file as a whole, and make a decision based on that.

There are so many different permutations to the scoring algorithms that while scores are useful as a general indicator one has to look at the profile itself to actually establish current creditworthiness.

A 748 FICO 8 score could mean for example there's an old derog on an otherwise healthy profile or it could mean someone has a clean profile but an issue/potential issue like high DTI.    The outcomes based upon these 2 different profiles would likely be quite different even though the scores are identical.

Re: CC Denial interesting reason

@coldfusion  Yeah I have had AMEX for 4 years. A guy called and they want me to do another 4506-T form and I just did one in August. I used the same income from my previous one nothing has changed and the last app for my BCE. I told him it took them over 6 months to process that application and I will not being going through that process again and I had to apply twice. Go to know that I was not denied due to having less than a 750 lol.
