CHASE SLATE: Another 7-10 day wait and 30 day wait data point.

I applied for Chase Slate last night with my Credit Karma scores showing as 670-ish and my last EX pull a few months ago showing 664. Currently at 3/24. 3yr AAOA. 45% utilization (roughly 12k on roughly 25k in revolving). 5 inquiries but 3 of those are from a mortgage that I landed early this year. A bad account paid in full 5 years ago ($200 hospital bill I didnt even know existed until running a free credit report.... GRRRRRRRRRRRRR)

Website gave me the 7-10 message which most people call the kiss of death.

Out of curiosity I called the automated line right away and it was 7-10 day message as well.

Just called it again 24 hours later and it has switched to 30 days. So maybe hope there.

If I get it, awesome itll help me pay down my debt faster and get a history with Chase so I can get a fancy rewards card later.

If I dont get it ill start on the recon game.

Just wanted to share my adventure as it happens in real time and create another data point for others that are googling during their limbo.

Will update you all as this story develops.

48 hours later update: Got a call from their Fraud dept, confirmed my address and my cell phone number, approved for $900. Was really hoping for around 3k, but I know Slate often starts people small. Will use the week I have waiting for the card to decide if I want to burn another HP on a recon.

Re: CHASE SLATE: Another 7-10 day wait and 30 day wait data point.

Congratulations OP !

Unfortunately ,  I got the 7-10 message after getting pre-equal for the Freedom and CSP .  I did the application last Saturday and now the following Friday ,  I still get the, "you will hear from us within 7-10 days " !

My scores are all north of 740, no baddies, long history ,  3/5 on TU and 2/5 on EX which were pulled.

So, I fully expect the "kiss of death" !

Again ,  congratulations !

Re: CHASE SLATE: Another 7-10 day wait and 30 day wait data point.

Ok guys hoping for some quick advice here. Got my card yesterday. Decided I want to push for that CLI right away. $900 is better than nothing but much much less than I hoped for.

Should I call the number on the back of the card or go straight to recon? Ive heard that Chase doesnt want you to recon before using the normal channels but since this is a CLI on a brand new card my application is kind of like the "regular channel" in this case, right?

Also could use some critique on my strategy. My plan was to try to first be polite and establish repore if possible. Then assuming I get the following questions, I would probably respond in these ways:

-Why do you need more credit?

"Well, id like to take advantage of the balance transfer option but also be able to use the Slate as my daily spender in order to build a good history with you guys. Since this is my first Chase card, I aimed a bit lower for one of your easier to get cards but my hope is to build a history by paying down a BT and also paying my monthly spend in full so that six months to a year from now you guys will consider me a good candidate for one of your reward cards. Unfortunately, with a $900 limit this doesn't even have enough room to be a convenient daily spender."

-Why did you recently open a Discover IT card a month ago?

"This was a combination of bad research on my part and a bait and switch on Discovers part. I was looking for a good card that I could use for the same purpose above, half BT and half daily spend. After applying for the Discover IT and taking the hard pull, Discover moved the goalposts on me and made it a 10% apr instead of 0% apr on balance transfers, so I decided not to use it for that. The part that is my responsibility in this is that I have now been turned away three times by places that do not accept discover which is very inconvenient for a daily spender that is sometimes the only card in my wallet at the time. If I had researched more thoroughly and known that discover would be broadly accepted I do no think I would have applied for the card."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

let me know if you think these responses would raise any flags. Thanks!

My two cents: Don't say things like "daily spender" or "one of your easier cards to get" Also-I have never been asked "why do I need a higher Limit. Usually they ask about specific things that are causing them concern on your report.
