Hi All,
I applied CITI Hilton card on Feb 27th and I got an email next morning asking me to call them to verify. I called them and some one at new application department processed my applciation after verifying me and it was a flat denial. I got a hard inquiry with Experian . When I asked reason, she was rude enough to tell me that I have to wait for the letter. I called back door number and I got the same answer. I was quite baffled as my scores are above 740 with only 5 or 6 inquiries in last one year.
Today I got a letter with declined reason and the letter reads " can't approve it because we cound't verify accuracy of the information you provided as part of the application"
I called them again and I was ready to share what ever information they need. The credit analyst repeated the same reason what was there in the letter and she was not ready to share me any further information due to security of my informtion. She asked me to contact Experian for inaccuracy and what information is not accurate she didn't care to share with me. She did not allow me to speak to supervisors or her manager. I was disappointed and felt I was discriminated with no reason to get declined.
I pulled my Experien report and see no issues and spoke to Experien service and they said they see no issues with my report.
Will reach out to EO on Monday, but I need all your help to tackle this situation as I feel that i am being declined for no reason.
Please advice and guide me with this situation.
Sounds like your account is flagged for potential fraud or some other malfeasance, especially if they wouldn't share "your" information with you, for "security" purposes. Might want to keep a close eye on your account for potential identity theft. The reason stated is pretty clear: something on your consumer report is not verifiable. Whether that's your employment, residency or who knows what, whatever was pulled from the report either doesn't match with something else they have or know due to whatever reason and it's important enough to decline you. Just a wild guess, but who knows.
Other than that, no idea.
sounds very scary ...what should I need to do to avoid any identity theft ? Freezing account ? I can do it, but how to know what information
Well, first off, I'm just speculating so it could or could not be that. I'm not an expert.
The first thing I would do (personally) is pull all FULL credit reports, the paid variety and check them all very carefully for potential discrepancies, inquiries, etc. Some subscriptions also offer alerts the instant something new pops up on your report. I know the instant a new account or inquiry hits my report through my subscription here on myFICO.
If you do see something that isn't right, call the bureaus and inform them. If you notice actual identity theft, get a police report then call the bureaus as they will need a police report to further any action.
Good luck.
Could be someting internal with CITI too. I experienced this with BBVA. They couldn't verify my information with EX but they later told me it was someting with their (BBVA) system which produced unreliable information. Not saying this is it but could be that something got twisted with your application. Good luck
I think you have received good advice so far from the other members. Pull a full copy of the report and go over it as thoroughly as possible to see if anything cold be wrong. This could be one of many reasons for that denial. It could be an easy fix but I am not sure. You could contact the EO and see if they would be willing to provide you more information and then proceed as needed.
I just got a call from CITI credit analyst department manager and she said the same story "some of the information is not correct on your credit report" ... what information is not accurate she did not tell me, what I have to fix she did not tell me, what I need to ask Experian to fix she did not tell me ...
With out head and tail of the issue what I can or could fix it. This seems something ridiculous to me. I did not add a freeze or fraud alert on my report, not sure whats wrong.
Humm ...never faced a situation like this with credit cards. I have multiple credit cards and mostly I got declined in past for too many inquiries, balances or due to some reason which a human can me can understand and get satisfied with. However, this is quite unusual and make me feel very bad.
CITI seems to be too picky or choosy ...

OP - advice has already been given. Just check your CR details to ensure all the data is correct (SSN, DOB, address, alias names, phone #, etc.).
There was a fraud alert set by ProectMyID.com, due to which they do not want to approve me. This fraud alert was system generated and I did not set this when I enroll with ProtectMyID.com. Any ways, as I said I reached EO and the magic lady asked me to send utility bill and today I got apporoved for Citi Hilton Card with 11K credit limit.
I guess 3 hard pulls worth for 80K hilton points.
This is the end of this story ... Thank You all.
