I recently attempted to get my CLI with all 3 of my CapitalOne cards and was denied. The reasoning was that I haven't made higher payments than the minimum due.
Which is ok cause I can up the payments when some other things clear out but I believe I received that letter saying if I made payments of at least $75 or higher for the next 3 months they would give me total credit limits up to $1,275.
Right now, all 3 of my cards have $850 credit limits.
With me Capital One has been pretty tight. I started off paying in full anytime I charged the card trying to establish a good record with them. A month ago I used it to pay a medical bill for a little over $200 and I did let a balance carry over one statement, because I had read that Capital One likes it when you carry a balance - but then I paid it in full right after the statement came out and it's had a 0 balance ever since. I got the early CLI for the steps program in April, instead of May. Now I guess I have to wait 6 months to ask again. Since it is a low limit card, I really can't use it for much.
I did get a CLI from their Kohl's card after 6 months, and some people have told me that for the first CLI Capital One makes you wait the full 6 months, then after that you can ask for a CLI every 90 days, I will try it, since it is a SP. I am wondering if it works the same for the mastercard? I may hit the LUV button in 90 days just to see if it works.
