I got a prequal for Disco a month or so ago when my various bureau scores were averaging around 700. Going to go ahead and apply and my scores at this time are averaging around 730. I've got a really old USAA reward card that I haven't asked for a CLI in years. It will be a HP when I request it. Getting the Disco is more important to me than the USAA CLI as I want to take advantage of the double rewards first year and lower (estimated) APR than my USAA. It seems to me it would be wisest to apply for Disco then request USAA CLI after approval, but then USAA is going to see the brand new account. So I was wondering is the HP on the USAA CLI going to be minor enough that it would be best to try that first to get the maximum CLI, then apply for the new Disco card? I have 1 HP in the last year and 4 total HPs in the last 2 years. I'm just not sure how much a new HP from USAA would affect Disco's decision on APR and SL. Of the two I believe USAA is the more conservative as far as far as being more stingy and wanting higher scores to do anything.
I would go for USAA first. They use an older score model which is more sensitive to credit seeking behaviors.
@Jazee I agree with the post above. The inquiry from USAA is not likely to affect your Fico 8 scores much. You will likely still get approved from Discover, but as with anything in the credit world nothing is guaranteed.
Good luck!
