I'm not sure why the advice you're getting is to wait it out. My most recent Chase apps have gotten both 30 day and 7-10 messages. I've called into an analyst right away. Very professional and polite. One time it was verification and the other it was verification plus hitting my internal Chase limit. I'm not sure what the down side of calling in is. IME you get issues resolved faster and the card on its way to you.
Waited it out and got declined via mail. The reason stated was too many new requests for credit with Chase. I called the recon line and the woman told me it is because I was recently (last month) got approved for the Chase Disney Rewards Card and also recently got a CLI on my Chase Amazon Rewards Card. She did not seem willing to budge, so I thanked her for her time and hung up.
I followed that up with a call to the Chase EO and got on the line with a gentleman who seemed a bit more sympathetic to my recon. He took notes of what I told him (recently got a new job that includes business travel, the CSP would fit my new traveling wonderfully, I have zero baddies and have never missed a payment, etc.) and said an Executive Analyst would review my file and get back to me in about 48 hours.
Fingers crossed that the EO successfully recons my application. Would love the CSP before heading into the garden. Thoughts on my chances? If declined again should I offer to move some of my Amazon and Disney credit over to the CSP?
I think Chase has a no more than 2 new cards in 30 day rule. Maybe the CLI request is counting against that.

That's what they made it sound like. The analyst told me I was declined because I had "two new applications for credit in the past 30 days, one new card and one CLI." I wouldn't have requested the CLI on the Amazon card if I knew it would shoot myself in the foot!
The two "applications for credit" were both on February 16th. If I wait until March 17th and call the recon line (still within 30 days of CSP application, so still can recon), would that increase my chances (assuming the EO doesn't approve me)? Or will I need to submit a completely fresh CSP application on the 17th?
