CSP question!

So I recently got a Chase Freedom card last month.

Today, I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and got the 7-10 day message. Then in an email, I got a message saying they would have a decision in 30 days.

I called the line and talked to a rep to see if I needed to provide any more information but she said not at this time.

So, my question is - for those with current chase cards that apped for the CSP or CSR, did you just end up seeing it in your online banking? Did you get auto approved or did you have a waiting period? Just looking for some data points.

Re: CSP question!

I applied in branch. When I checked status through call, i was getting 30-day message. After 3 days i saw it on my online chase account and the phone status changed to approved.

Re: CSP question!

When i applied for my FU after applying for the CSP, it was immediately denied. Reason was because i had too many new accounts with Chase.

I think you will be denied because of your freedom that you got a month ago.

you can always recon and let them know that you need the card for other purposes. Then it'll be up to the rep to approve you, push it up for approval, or reject you.

good luck!

Re: CSP question!

My first chase card, the CSP, I applied and received the email thanks for applying. I didn't have a Chase account then to see if it was added on. I let it and 2 weeks later, I got the email Welcome to Chase Sapphire Preferred.

I think I applied for several Chase cards at one time to see which one I'll get an instant approval. None of them did. After I activated my Sapphire, a few days later, MileagePlus Explorer was added. Forgot I even applied for that. Both accounts now showed on my report as being opened at the same day!!!

Re: CSP question!

It could go either way at this point. 30 day message is usually a good sign overall but ymmv. With you just opening your other chase card it's 50/50 right now I feel. When I got my Marriott and after 4 months applied for the CSP it ended up being declined and the rep stated when I called they like to see 6 months of history first with your first chase card. Best of luck though.

Re: CSP question!

Back in January 31 of this year, all I had to show for was a lousy $900 SECURED card.  I did have a history of credit cards before, but all of them were all closed by 2008, so I had no other active credit card other than that lousy secured card.

Anyways, one day, I decided to check my scores and they were in the 750-770s to my surprise.  I guess having no negative information and absolutely zero inquiries forever seemed to have given my score a boost at the time, as well as the fact that my long-closed accounts were still reporting which meant that my AAoA wasn't horrible.

So I applied for CSP, and got the 30-day message.  No e-mails, no phone calls, no letters, nothing.  Then out of the blue in about 2 weeks, I got the CSP card in the mail.  And they gave me a whopping 16k SL.  I couldn't believe it.

So you may eventually end up with the same scenario as mine.  Since that day, I have managed to diversify and expand my portfolio quite a bit, and now I really must stop applying until at least April of next year.

Good luck to you!
