CSR Approval Odds?

Hi all,

I've recently applied for the CSR and I'm wondering what my odds are. I chose CSR over CSP because I have significant travel (20+ flights) planned this year. Insurance, lounges, and travel credit are super helpful.

Background:

College Student

Annual Income: $80k

Three Cards:

  • Barclays Card $36k (12yrs, Authorized User) ~15% usage
  • GM Card $11k (7yrs, Authorized User) ~3% usage
  • Citi T.Y. Preferred $5k (9mo) ~30% usage, underreported income when signing up

Scores:

  • 722 EQ (Citi App)
  • 749 EX (Experian Site)
  • 770 TU (Credit Karma)

Other Information

  • Perfect payment history on all cards
  • No collections, student loans, mortgages, or auto loans
  • AAoA: 9 months (?)
  • Inquires: 1 EX from Citi

What are my odds? I'm new to the myFICO forums and not familiar with card reputations and some of the acronyms used here.

If I'm not approved for the CSR, would I be able to call recon hotline to get a CSP?

Thanks in advance!

Re: CSR Approval Odds?

CSR as in Chase Sapphire Reserve. I didn't know it also meant Customer Service Representative

Re: CSR Approval Odds?

Howdy!! I currently don’t have the CSR but from what I have heard of the Visa Infinite cards (CSR, Ritz Carlton Card, US Bank Altitude Card), the credit lines start at $10K. So you’d have to qualify for that initially. The CSR is a card that I am considering between as well. I also know that they are probably going to need a decent AAOA. 9 months might not be enough time for the CSR. Possibly the Platinum American Express or Hilton Honors Aspire. Those both have similar / the same credits but with the Platinum Card you have access to more lounges (i.e. Some Delta Sky clubs when flying with Delta, and the covetted American Express Centurion Lounge).

If for some reason in your research you find that the CSR isn’t for you or you don’t feel comfortable you’ll be approved, just know there are other cards out there worth looking into:

Citi Presitge
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Platinum American Express
Hilton Honors Aspire AMEX
The Ritz Carlton Visa Infinite
US Bank Altitude Visa Infinite

Good luck!! 🕺🏾

Re: CSR Approval Odds?

Two things will maybe hold you back on getting the CSR. Your AAoA and your lack of experience with larger limits. As someone here already pointed out the minimum starting limit on the CSR is $10k so generally Chase likes to see prior experience with this before and also at least one of year of credit history to work with as well. Your income and scores won't be the issue unless they pull some old data on you when considering your application.

Re: CSR Approval Odds?

Am I confused or does OP have about $6k of current CC charges based on described utilization? Assuming OP is PIF every month, shouldn’t the application be timed for a point in the cycle where lower balances are showing, or utilization is lowered overall?

Starting Score (October 7, 2010): EQ: 698 TU: 709
Interim Score: EQ (October 21, 2010): 714 TU (November 2, 2010): 732
More Recent Interim Score: (March 14, 2018- all FICO8): TU: 831: EQ: 824: EX: 827
Goal Score: 850 all

Re: CSR Approval Odds?

I thought about what you said. I thought the 15% utilization on the Barclays card was for myself and the cardholder but it would make sense if it just me. I had to put $6k down for an apartment this month. Most months it's closer to $500. I should've waited.

I got a notice from Experian this morning that Chase submitted an inquiry to my card. Would I be able to be considered for the CSP without another inquiry? What about cancelling to wait for lower usage?

Re: CSR Approval Odds?

Figure I'd update this post with my results - I was not approved. Their reason is didn't have enough accounts.
