Re: Cabela's Mastercard Application

I completely get what you're trying to do. As for the card chances themselves, store cards are generally easier to get BUT the Cabelas card isn't just a store card - it can be used anywhere Mastercards can be used too, which is something to keep in mind and may make it subject to somewhat higher scrutiny than a regular store only card. I've looked into getting this card as well as the Rural King card which is also usable at places other than the store itself (its a Visa), but am not at a point where I want to app for new cards just yet. I also have a Kohls store card which is "through" Cap1 as well, but you wouldn't know without checking because you really don't deal with Cap1 at all with its store cards and Cap1 won't pre-approve you for it as the pre-approval (if offered) and the app process is handled through the store itself usually with store cards. Kohls website offers a pre-approval form but Cabelas from what I've seen doesn't unfortunately. I think my scores were between what yours are now and what they were before your higher utilization when I got approved for my Kohls card. I would say to err on the side of caution and wait (unfortunately) for your scores to go back up a bit and those new accounts to age a bit, especially with that utilization dropping soon, before you app to have a better chance at success, and even if you were able to get it now at least waiting that bit might help you get a higher SL with score going up before app'ing. If it goes back up to around a 715-720 like I think you said it should in one of your previous replies, score wise you'd probably be good for the store card as long as they aren't too sensitive to the new accounts or there isn't anything else negative.. As I said I don't have the Cabelas Card but just my two cents  from when I've looked into it and experience with having a different Cap1 backed store card (and regular Cap1 card).

Re: Cabela's Mastercard Application

I have the Cabela's Capital One Mastercard and am real glad that they bought the portfolio of accounts from Bank of America. I say this because when BoA administered the Cabela's accounts, I had a real tough time trying to get approved for the card. You see, I had a bankruptcy back in 2005 (unfortunately, I had included 2 BoA accounts in the bankruptcy owing more than $10,000 on each of them). For the past 10 years, Bank of America would automatically turn me down every time I tried to apply for ANY of their accounts. I decided to try in 2017 right before Cap 1 acquired it and was STILL flat out rejected due to unsatisfactory past performance on BoA accounts. Even though my bankruptcy, as well as any accounts I had included in it, had dropped off my credit report 10 years later (which would have been in 2015..all of the other accounts fell off even before then...keep in mind, absolutely NOTHING derogatory was on my credit report when I tried to apply for the account), I was STILL rejected for the account (I guess like enemies, banks can hold grudges forever and never, ever forgive and forget and give someone a 2nd chance). I pretty much gave up on trying to apply for the Cabela's card until Cap 1 bought BoA. Well, Cap 1 welcomed me with open arms (and with a very generous credit line, UNLIKE Bank of America who WON'T even loan me a PENNY!!!) Guess that BoA is definitely NOT the forgiving type and will hold grudges against their former customers forever.
