Cannot get Capital One CLI. What am I doing wrong?

Hello everyone! Smiley Happy

It's been 6 months since my last Cap 1 increase on my QS 1 card. I started out at a $1,000 limit, then $1,500 and now I'm at $2,000. Anyways, I've been trying to get another increase since my Plat (now PC'ed QS) has a limit of $3K. I don't think I'm bucketed because my denial letters have been stating that my "payments are too low" and to make higher than the minimum payments.

I recently purchased a new phone and put the $800 on my QS 1 card. Since then, I've made 5 - $100 payments and my statement just cut yesterday. I tried to request a CLI increase today, hoping now that I've made $500 in payments that I'd be well over the minimum payments issue, but nope. Still got the dreaded "we'll send you an email in 2-3 busines days."

What am I doing wrong? Also, I put a lot of SPEND on my Cap 1 cards. I even carry balances on them.

For the best results, you may want to pay if off before requesting CLI.

Carrying a balance is not necessarily a selling point.

Another thing, Cap One typically does AR every 3-4 months, so you may want to check your reports and see when was the last one performed. If it was done during the time your utilization was high (regardless of whether it's their cards or cards by other lenders), you may want to wait till after the next AR, provided you've paid off your balance.

Keep in mind that Cap1 is known to use old credit report info, not "real time" data. When you get your denial letter you can see exactly what date the info on it was pulled -- my guess is December -- and adjust your future expectations accordingly.

Sorry.

Thank you Remi! I can't afford to pay off my balance yet, but I will continue to make $100 weekly payments until I do! Smiley Happy

Do you know where on my reports I can find on my reports where to see when the last AR was performed? My uti has been around 37%, would this have a big impact on it even though the denial letter doesn't mention my uti at all? I'm just trying to understand Cap 1 because it only seems like they give me CLI when I don't ask for one...lol.

It's okay! Thanks for the info. I guess I should stop asking for CLI's and just pay off the balance already, haha. I really just want the extra util padding while paying off the balance. TBH.

Usually from a copy of free annual credit report, and I believe EQ monitoring service shows SPs.

Easiest way is to grab a copy of annual credit report (it doesnt matter which CRA) and look for the last account review (AR).

I already pulled all my reports from annual credit report beginning of this year. The only other credit monitoring services I have are Experian and Credit Karma.

If denied for credit -- you were -- you're entitled to get a free report from the CRA used in the decision.

Oh awesome! Do I get all 3 or just the 1 that Capital One uses?

Re: Cannot get Capital One CLI. What am I doing wrong?

I've had capital one for awhile now and I've pretty much hit a brick wall which is ok. I've asked for several CLI with a denial and reason was not adequate usage at current limit. And their right I don't really use it anymore so basically I stopped asking my UTL is 0%.

From what I gather from your account you asked for a CLI and their reason for denial was not paying enough or anything above the minimum payment. That would be a red flag to any bank that you maybe running into financial trouble. I would recommend for capital one use heavy and pay heavier if not PIF. That what's Been referenced quite a bit about capital one. Good luck with your journey 👍.
