I have been carrying a balance on my cap 1 card for the past year and a half (it was a BT offer and I had 0% APR) Every month I paid around $200 [the required payment was $25]. Over the past year I have requested CLIs several times and always get denied for the same reason. Monthly payment too low. So I decided to pay off the full balance left this month and apply for another CLI. I just got the denial monthly payment too low! I can't pay anymore because there is no balance! Is this a computer deciding this? The one thing I would note is that before my last attempt I had PIF and the statement had not yet cut. I just waited to apply for the CLI until the payment was reflected in my available balance. Should I apply again now that the statement is closed? I could understand not giving me a CLI if I had a balance pending, but to deny me for low payments when I am fully paid off? Any downside to repeatedly requesting a CLI with cap 1?
Yeah it's the computer. I paid off a large balance once and immediately requested CLI. I wasn't happy with the amount so I left it. After the statement cut I tried again and they offered 60% more. So whatever is in their calculations results are better after statement cut. I found Discover to be this way too. So anywhere whenever I pay a large balance I always just wait until after statement cut to make requests from now on. This is just what I've noticed even with minimal movement in score between the statements.

Capital One has been changing gears lately, so don't get too frustrated about it.
I wouldn't bother applying more frequently than once very couple of months, but no, there's no real downside to it.

I'm going to app one more time since its right after the statement cut and maybe that will make a difference. I just didn't want to keep reapping if it was a human rejecting me.
OP: you're in the same situation as me! (Read mine here: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Cap1-How-long-after-large-balance-payment-to-ask-for-CL...)
I guess we took advantage of Cap1 BT offer same time, and now nothing in terms of CLI.
Can't tell you anything more meaningful, but perhaps their computer is slow to adjust the monthly payment tally, so to try in a month or two. I will for sure.

Yea I am a bit more eager to do it now because this is not a card I use for spend so in a few months I will have zero activity and they will use that as a basis to deny. I'm just trying to get my credit line up because later this year I will be closing a number of cards where I will not be able to transfer the credit lines and my overall available credit will drop a decent amount.

yeah, you might still be able to do it even if you don't put any additional spend on the card. If the computer adjusts slowly then whenever they take into account your current payment, that's when they'll give you CLI, and then what happens after that shouldn't factor.
I know it's a bummer, but looks like at this point there's no other choice.
Just got another rejection for a CLI for the same reason that my average monthly payment is too low. Nevermind that the statement cut and the entire balance has been paid off. The computer probably won't acknowledge the change for another couple of months so I'm just not going to bother.
I got a whole $400 today from them on a Plat. wow . I need to merge this card into my QS. It has no use. It lives in the SD

That excuse I been getting for roughly about 2+ years, it's the basic excuse they always give me. I just did the same exact thing had a balance paid it, let it cut, attempted a CLI to get nothing. To be honest I don't use the card often if at all, but I will leave a balance from time to time and pay it off but it doesnt seem to matter to them. At the end the computer aglorithm is denying it for what I believe is non-use or not enough use for a 14.5k limit card, I had the same issue when I had cards at 7.5k/6k/4.5k/2.5k/1.5k at one point I had multiple Cap 1 cards oldest being almost 10 years old the oldest was 1.5k and recieved 2 increases of $500 in 6+ years I had to start combining my cards to get the 14.5k limit which I dont think its natural so I don't expect any CLI from Cap 1. The last 2 CLI was me giving myself a CLI by combining cards, thats how Cap 1 looks at combined cards as a CLI. Combine the card and your 6mo CLI resets.
I just stopped bothering with it since I don't plan on using it anymore, will just close it and call it a day when the time comes.
