Cap 1 - product change and credit limit increase

Hi. Thanks everyone for the credit card education.

A bit of background - I've had Cap 1 card for over 10 yrs. It matured from a low cli card to the Platinum MC on its own. I didn't know that I could request cli.

I called to a product change to the QS however cap 1 declined an increase from 6600. I've never had a late payment with them. My balance with them is approx 10percent of uti.

I would love to increase it to 10k card to help my overall uti. What should I do? Thx

Threaten to cancel. Smiley Happy Jk. If they denied you. You may just have to wait. Did you product change already? If you didnt. Always ask for CLI before otherwise the product change reset the cli timeframe.

Ah... I get it. Oops I did the reverse. How long is the cli time frame Is it after the 3rd statement or 6 months?

Darn. Well At lease you have a decent limit. Smiley Happy

I would try the after the 3th statement. Some have gotten lucky here. Otherwise if denied you will likely get one after the 6th statement.

Depends on what reason they gave.  For example, the last time they denied me the message said "Recent use of credit line has been too low."  So I used the living spit out of the card for two months and hit the luv button again.  Instant increase.

If they didn't give you a reason, check the Documents section online, there may be a letter in there.  I've never had them deny me without stating a reason.  Whatever that reason is, fix it, and try again.

Ok sounds good. About the APR its uncommon that they will it reduce at all or do it without a HP at least. Maybe you can ask for a CLI then product upgrade to freedum unlimited. That card might have a better APR and they might do that without a HP.

+1

I'll just add not to be like me and confused "Statements and Documents" with "Messages and Alerts".

While "Messages" seems like the logical place to look, it's not in this case (or perhaps I'm just a bit slow, and it was only logical to me... LOL).  (Note: "Statements and Documents" can be found on the "Accounts" drop-down.)

Here's a screen pic of what you're looking for:

Note that the "Account Change Confirmation" links indicate when I was sucessful in getting a CLI, and the "Credit Limit Increase Request" links are when I tried too early and got shot down.  From looking at this, you can see that I should be able to use the 'button' again on this card after June 4.

Note also that I have a drop-down box to look at the documents for my other card.  Smiley Wink

Uncle B, according to experience with Cap 1, you should be good on June 1 or June 2 actually.  June 1 is 180 days.

Yeah, I know there's a little "play" in there due to some months being longer/shorter than others, but I usually just stick with the K.I.S.S. principle that way I don't have to worry about it... LOL!  Smiley Very Happy
