Cap ONE CLI question

So, I've had two CapOne cards since I started my rebuilding journey. The first was a secured that I started out my journey with. I closed it and got a Savor One once my scores were good enough. I got one CLI on the secured, but every time I tried on the Savor One, got the you have not used enough of your credit, bla bla message. Well, I stopped trying to get any additional CLI on that card since I have 10K CL and I don't use it much at all since my Amex Preferred has a much better cashback. I may have used the Savor a couple of times in restaurants over the past 6 months.

Yesterday I get an email from them saying please update your income to be considered for a CLI. I was thinking of hitting the button to see if I could get one now but then thought perhaps I should just see if they do an auto one. I'm not overly hopeful since I haven't really used the card so it seems like the not enough use still applies.

Would you try to click the luv button or just wait? I don't need a CLI, but it would be nice to have a little more padding for the one card, I have a balance on.

Give it a week then hit the CLI button.

Re: Cap ONE CLI question

Just to temper expectations a bit, they are almost certainly asking for an update on your income as part of an automatic, routine -- perhaps annual -- process they have in place. The part about being considered for a CLI is just a throwaway line, a carrot to induce you to comply.

Countless datapoints have shown that the primary factor in CapOne's CLI decisions is spend. Heavy spend might get you a CLI. Light spend will not. Since you say your spend on this card has been light in the past six months, I think you have virtually no chance at a CLI, even if your income has skyrocketed since initial approval.

Outside of the Credit Steps program (which you aren't in) CapOne auto CLIs are rare these days, but they do happen occasionally. Here's one from this week, but if you read to bottom of the thread, you will see that the recipient had two months with spend of approximately 112% of CL.

Actually, I would say that your low use and current CL make it more likely you will see an automatic CLD than a CLI, regardless of your income. They slashed a bunch of limits this fall, as documented in this thread. A lot of people with low use got cut down to $5k. If you are looking to pad your Util, Capital One is not the issuer to do it with.

All that being said, go ahead and hit the luv button whenever you want. Today, tomorrow, a week from now, the day after that, whenever. All resulting pulls will be soft, their decisions are instant (the 7-10 day message means no and the decline letter will be available online in about a day), and they don't put you on time-out after a rejection.

Re: Cap ONE CLI question

To be quite honest, a CLI with Cap One is like pulling teeth. It is highly unlikely they will issue you one, especially on a card that is rarely used. You can certainly still try asking, but I'm just letting you know their tendencies at the moment. As mentioned above, what is more likely to happen to your account is actually a CLD for lack of use; so if anything, I'd recommend using the card more often if you hope to keep your current limit intact (which of course still wouldn't be guaranteed).

Re: Cap ONE CLI question

Thanks everyone. I updated the income like they asked but I'm just going to not do anything including little card use and see if they try to buy me back with an auto :-)
