Cap One QS or another Secured Card

Right now my credit score is 574 at the moment. I was looking at the Cap One QS with the annual fee but don't know my odds of getting approved. Is it worth the try or just go for the Cap One secured Mastercard?

Re: Cap One QS or another Secured Card

Go on Cap One pre-qual site and see what it says, I got my QS1 when my score was just below yours so you might be surprised.

Do NOT apply for the QS card - the Cap One pre-qualifier is one of the most reliable one around. If it matches you with an offer it's 99% you'll be approved,, but if says you can't be matched don't apply - it's a hard pull & you'll likely be declined. All the pre-qualifiers (Chase, Citi, Amex, BofA, Cap One) suggest you apply if they don't match you with a card - nothing for them to lose, maybe they missed something, but for you you'll likely waste in inquiry on your CR and be declined. And never ever use the Discover alleged "pre-qualifier", you can put in totally fake info and it will still ciaim Discover IT is perfect for you, and then turn you down faster than a high school prom queen turning down the school nerd for a date.

Re: Cap One QS or another Secured Card

It doesn't always mean you will be denied with no matches! My mom who has never dealt with credit asked me to help her get a few revolvers to start building a good history. We did the pre-qual and also got no offers. Applied for the QS1 and was approved, then applied for the Classis Platinum and was approved. She only got $300 limits but they put her in the steps program.
Don’t take your credit for granted, use it with care! These days, catch me in the bankruptcy forum!?

Re: Cap One QS or another Secured Card

I have to input though that my mothers scores are mid 600s. I was approved for the QS1 last month when my score was a 580 but was initially denied and had to recon.

Re: Cap One QS or another Secured Card

Applying for Capital One cards when your scores are below their mean always makes me nervous because they triple pull. But if you're feeling adventurous and you're not too concerned about inquiries, I say go for it.

Re: Cap One QS or another Secured Card

I say go with the secured card, you use that for almost a year and your score will be at least in the starting 600s! But of course you have to put some money into it like making your own credit increases. My score was like a 550 coming out of chapter 7 and I used the secured card for 9 months decided to apply for a regular capital one and I was instantly approved!
