Cap One - any point if not pre-approved?

Received a Cap One ITA for the Savor last week. Delightful SUB. That said, I'm 8/12, having added two in mid-October. I'm known to CO only through a bank account that hasn't yet started receiving my payroll. Above-average income, healthy FICO scores.

BUT CO's pre-approval site says that all I'm qualified for is the QS1.

So, any point in applying? (I'm inclined to think not.)

2025 Goal: save 3 months' net income

Starting FICO8: 666 (give or take a FICO)
[ Last INQ 12-Feb-2024 ]
EQ8502 INQ (Auto, Mort)7y4m
EX8506 INQ (2 CC, 2 mort, 2 auto)7y
TU8501 INQ (CC)6y8m
3/241/12AoYA 10m | AoOA 24y2m~1%

Yeah, FICO 9 is 850 as well. Smiley Happy

I personally would err on the side of caution and wait until the actual product that I'm interested (Capital One-wise) became available as a pre-approved offer.

With some of the recent changes in their UW criteria, this would get you a step closer than perhaps a cold application that would otherwise be a shot in the dark. My opinion anyways.

Re: Cap One - any point if not pre-approved?

I cold-apped for the Savor One a couple weeks ago and was approved with a relatively massive limit. Their site only showed pre-approvals for their "Platinum" and QuickSilver cards.

I did have a Platinum card with them for over 15 years, so that may have helped. I was 5/12 (3/6). FICO a bit lower but comfortably over 700.

The 8/12 may scare them a bit. All things considered, the card may be redundant if you already have the Uber card. I'd say you have a good shot, but not guaranteed. Mostly depends on how you feel about a triple pull to get what may only be limit padding.

This is very key.  How worth it to you are the triple pulls.

Me personally I’d want some assurance that those three HPs won’t be wasted before submitting that app. I would wait for a preapproval, especially for the Savor which is kind of their halo product right now, and probably has their toughest underwriting after the Venture.

Re: Cap One - any point if not pre-approved?

Is their new UW criteria known yet? I’m 0/24 and when I pull my 3B Ultimate next week, I “might” hop out of the garden for it. Not sure if I want to forfeit my diamond badge for a shot in the dark.

3B profile optimization in progress...

Re: Cap One - any point if not pre-approved?

The Savor seems redundant for you anyway. You already have the Uber for 4% dining. The TD Cash card has 3% dining/2% grocery just like the Savor no AF version.

So no, I wouldn't waste an app honestly.

@expatCanuck I was not pre-approved for my Venture in 2017. I apped anyway based on the history with my QS. I was approved. YMMV
