It wasn't bad luck, it was MY cocky irresponsible behavior. Period.
I own up to all my deliquencies by not being properly prepared for it. I remember when a bank account I opened as a favor to a friend to get a $100 credit ended up closing because of inactivity and left me with a $45 deficiency and of course they never contacted me but mailed letters to the friend who threw them out -- and then CHEX nailed me across ALL my personal bank accounts. Over $45 or something. Just insanity. I don't do that anymore, and I use 3 different bank monitoring apps now to warn me of low balances anywhere, or payments due anywhere, etc. I will never against be late on anything, ever -- and I have more than enough savings and liquid investments to stay that way the rest of my life.
Plus no mortgage or other debts means all my income can be discretionary spending if I want it to be, and I hate knowing that I've spend $250,000 in charges over 5-6 years and zero of it earned me rewards. That's $5000 I could have used towards an extra vacation, lol!
Congrats on getting your own financial hell paved over. I'm a bit impatient on fixing these remaining issues but even if they take longer than expected, having a secured card with a high limit and rewards is better than nothing. I'm not a CC chaser -- if I can have 1 MC, 1 Visa and 1 alternate all with rewards, I'd be happy as a clam. 1 year, 2 years tops.
You cannot PC w C1 prior to activation. Was just there.
Yep I called them and they explained to me that once the application is made and offered after approval, I have to either just accept the product I applied for or let it expire. He them told me I would have to wait 6 months before applying for a different product.
Kinda goofy. Instead of throwing $3000 to them I'll just send $349 or some such amount to get a $500 CL and sock drawer it and see what happens in 6 months. By 6 months I'm sure NFCU or someone else will give me an unsecured rewards card, though. I will probably have $5000 in total spend in my first month with Discover IT secured, if not more. Goofy Cap1, lol.
