I think it is a fairly strict 181 days. Good thing with Cap1 though, it won't hurt to try early. Will just be a SP and you can every day if you'd like. It will not 'reset' your timing to try again
Strict 6 months. Wait until day 181 to be safe.
PS I'm in the same boat. Credit steps CLI was 8/9/16. I'm just going to play it safe and wait until after my statement cuts on 2/9.
PSS you CAN ask anytime because it is a soft pull. But you will be denied (guaranteed) if it hasn't been 6 months since your last request.

Well I'll try on the 6th then as that will be 181 days. If denied I'll try the 7th and if that is denied I guess they don't want to give me my usual $150-$250 increase. Lol. Unfortunately I am not kidding. Even with my other higher limit cards they don't like me or are still treating it like it was a $500 card. Maybe they will surprise me this time. If not I may have to close it.
How much/often do you use the card? I have noticed the more I use a Cap1 card, the bigger the CLI is

If you get a denial, you will get a letter a day or two later (if you get estatements, you can see the Doc they send the next day). If it says, 'you recently received a CLI' you'll know you are too early. If another reason is given other than being early, you'll know why they won't budge.
On my two Cap1 cards I received CLIs shortly after opening, and then again with credit steps, but they have not budged since then. It's been almost a year since last CLI

How strict are they on the 6 months timing? Does it need to be 180 or 181? Can it be a few days early if your Statement cuts?
For instance I have written down my last CLI with them was 08/09/2016. That means I am due 02/09/17 if you do it by date, but 180 or 181 days is 02/05/16 or 02/06/17.
My statement cut today though so I was thinking maybe they do the computer entry to tell it to approve the CLI on the statement date?
Does anyone know the specifics?
TIA and hope this makes sense
Take the date of your last CLI and add 181 days to it, using wolfram alpha
