CapOne GM CLI Denied

I requested an increase on my Capital One General Motors branded card and received the strangest denial reason.  The stated reason was "credit line increases are not available upon request for this product at this time".  I know that I have received an increase since opening the card, howver I believe it was an auto increase.  Has anyone else attempted a CLI on this particular card and received a similar reason, or has anyone actually received an increase?  This is definitely a new denial reason for me.  I have such a low limit on this card at this point that I'm seriously considering cancelling if it isn't going to grow, however I'd rather not loose the GM reward cash that I've built up at this point.

That is an interesting reason. I don't have the card, we considered it after buying our Sierra. I don't see the GM card often, but it seems to usually be lower limits.

Re: CapOne GM CLI Denied

I've had this card for two years and after the 'credit steps' auto increase it hasn't budged. Still sits at $1500. I cannot begin to count how many times I requested a CLI and got the same reason you did. I called Cap One more times than I care to recall and CS reps couldn't explain what it means. I tried and tried and tried until eventually a CS manager told me it was due to Cap One incorporating that card into their normal web site (it used to be seperate) and that I should keep asking every month.

After it was brought in line with thier web site, I tried again. Same denial reason. Called CS again and this time was essentially told that that card just isn't going to grow. They didn't actually come out and say it but the impression that I got was that Cap One has zero interest in servicing those GM cards. Eventually I just stopped using it.

Re: CapOne GM CLI Denied

I have had this card since it was first offered (opened 9/2014) which started with a $5k limit and then increased to $10k, then $12.5k, then $13.5k on 2.11.17 since then it's been "stuck" with the reason being that credit limit increases are not being considered at this time.  I have $1150 in purchase credit rewards as of my May 2018 statement.

Over the last several months I've had several offers to add additional "credit" toward a purchase - in December it was $2000, this month I got an offer for an additional $1500 - not credit limit on the card, but additional credit toward a purchase ($1150 +$1500) of a new GM Vehicle, no string or conditions added and you use the GM Card credit as "cash" after taking rebates, promotions, etc. Last month I had an offer for a $200 cash back "prepaid visa" if I purchased a new set of tires at the dealer and used the card. I did need new tires and the dealer has a price match policy, but I didn't take them up on it.

I've said it many times on MyFico, for me this is a very good card even if I just "bank" the 5% on the first $5k of spend, that's $250 a year in a vehicle "IRA" Smiley Wink

I do think my CLI's are over for this card, not that I'll ever have a need for more than $13,500 - note that I always PIF this card.

Re: CapOne GM CLI Denied

Capital One seems to be tightening up on requested CLI's lately.  I wouldn't take it personally.
