So if you're going to close it anyways, why not take the increase?

I don't use it often, just enough to keep it open. But, I don't think I will ever close it. I just got my first "big boy" (to me) limit and I still will keep that little $600 cap one.
@BmoreBull I can understand that. Everyone has different goals and strategies here. Ive already determined Im not interested in the sock drawer tactic or having "hostage" cards as someone around here put it. lol But Im also working toward a short list goal. Keep Wayfair/Discover and wait until my profile is ready for Amex and US Bank.
Thats really all I want and need.
We all have to do what works best for us.
GL on your rebuild journey!

@Brian_Earl_Spilner I'll elaborate on my initial response.
1.) $100 doesn't effect or help util, might as well be $0
2.) $100 won't keep me from having to make multiple payments, which is a PITA. idk if its a bank issue or what but always takes at least 2-3 business days for the balance to update
3.) Cap One decided my profile was worth a $100 increase, as is their right, and I decided to decline
4.) Knowing I want to close it I won't even bother with increase requests again. It is what it is.
@Anonymous wrote:@Brian_Earl_Spilner Maybe I was too busy laughing to focus on accepting. 🙃 Nah seriously its because there really isn't much difference between $100 and $0. They can keep it.
You do realize that some lenders issue your starting limit based on your existing limits? The lower they are, the more likely you'll receive a lower limit on a new card.

@Brian_Earl_Spilner Yes and I also realize that certain cards/limits are not made to grow with a persons profile. Thats the reality and Im fine with it right now, doesn't mean I have to accept it forever.

No, you're right, in time you'll get larger limits and you definitely don't have to take it. I would have taken it, but then, I was told on recon a couple of times that my limit was in line with my other starter limits. Maybe the larger disco deposit will help you bypass that

I was merely curious, this turned out exactly as I expected based on research so declined the offer.
Scores below, 12th statement closed two days ago. I was using it frequently the first couple months since it was my only card but won't be reaching for it now. Planning to bump Discover secured up to $1500 after the first statement. No hard feelings just looking forward to the day when I can leave Cap One behind.
Same thing has been happening to me.
I started with them about two years ago as a secured card - Ive been inching my way every so often and have yet to break $1000.
Just got a $100 CLI last night. Will try again in a month or two. Ive gotten lucky to get $100 here and there, but its taken a while for them not to deny my CLI request.

I wish you luck! @dpsyche4 Not sure if a month or two will work. Cap One only approves CLI requests every six months. But if the $100 you received was an auto CLI then you should be ok.
