Capital One Application Rules

Hi, I recently was denied for a pre-approval for the Venture X card.  No explanation but to say we can't approve you at this time.

I know at one time there was a two card limit--I hear that maybe this is no longer the case.  I have the Savor One card which I got more than two  years ago, and I have an REI card (which I had understood at one time that co-branded cards don't count in the two card limit.)  My REI account actually was transferred to Capital One from US Bank a few years ago.  To be safe, earlier in the year, I closed my Capital One Quiksilver (opened in 2007) account because there's really no reason to keep a 1.5% card anymore.

My scores with the  big 3 are all 800+, and I have < 3% utilization across all my credit card accounts.  I did open a couple of non-Capital One credit card accounts within the past year though.

Does anyone know if I can call and get information on a pre-approval decline?  Anyone know what the latest updated application approval rules are for Capital One?

Re: Capital One Application Rules

Not sure how their card limit works anymore. I had my CapOne Kohl's card first and that didn't seem to count against anything, because later on I was approved for a QS, then A SavorOne and then I got the CapOne Walmart MC before it was discontinued.

The Walmart card has since changed to another QS and my Kohl's transferred to a Visa card. So tight now I have three not co-branded CapOne cards plus one co-branded one, the Kohl's Visa.

I am sure that if you call them, they can tell you why you were declined.

I get denied by the pre-approval tool due to my accounts being frozen.

Interestingly, though, I still get pre-approval notifications in Capital One app.

Thanks.  I didn't consider that I recently froze my accounts due to National Public Data Breach.  I'll unfreeze and try again.

Re: Capital One Application Rules

Ok, well I took the freezes off, and submitted the pre-approval again.  They pre-approved me for a VentureOne Rewards card, not a Venture X card.

So I guess I will go back to my original question, does anyone know if there are any specific application rules to get a Venture X card?

I wonder if I am in jail because a few years ago, I had a Venture card, but I canceled it after the first year.

Did you try the Venture X pre-approval tool?

Yes, that's what I used, and instead it said I was pre-approved for VentureOne.

Re: Capital One Application Rules

Same thing happened to me. I recently froze my credit reports for the first time and promptly forgot I did. The letter said they couldn't pull my reports. Unfroze them and tried again. Success.
