Capital One Blacklist

Hi everyone,

Back in 2019 I had a Capital One account that became past due a subsequently charged off. That balance was paid in full as of 2020. I was looking to get a new credit card back with Cap1 so I used the pre-qualify tool and it gives the following message, "

  • Based on your Pre-Approval form information, we observed activity on a prior Capital One account that is not consistent with our expectations for account usage or the terms of the account agreement"

Has anyone else had experience with this? Cap1 says their is nothing they can do and that they don't see as to why I am receiving that message. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Capital One Blacklist

They are currently TU: 550 EQ: 546 & EX: 530

I tried to just apply for the card as well and got the same message. The CSR at Cap1 told me that they didn't pull my credit report when I applied.

Re: Capital One Blacklist

Are these FICO's or Vantage scores.

Capital One is forgiving.   It may be a combo of score meets past relationship.   I burnt and agreed to pay portion and I did get back in.  But my FICO's were high 5's and I had some open current accounts.

If you can provide more data points.  Make sure Fico scores.   Employment and apx income? What is still on credit report? Any badies? Collections? Bankruptcies? Any current accounts = thick/ thin file?

I think we all can give you better feedback then.

Try a secured card like Navy Fed or Capital One.... Discover.  If you haven't already.

Re: Capital One Blacklist

Guessing it was a Soft Pull. Scores may need a bit of improvement.

Re: Capital One Blacklist

I'm guessing it's your scores that are spooking them unless somethings changed with how they do things. You can read numerous threads on here of folks getting back in with CapOne pretty quickly after burning them. I burned them in bk7 and they let me back in at around the 2 year mark

Re: Capital One Blacklist

I was just about to add an edit to the post. I actually recieved a call from someone at Cap1 that read my survey response to them and she confirmed that the message I was shown is 100% becuase of the previous account with them. That was the only details she was able to give me regarding the situation. Sucks for now but will continue to try an rebuild with a different company.

Thanks everyone for your insight!

Re: Capital One Blacklist

They are by far the easiest to get back in with. I would say either try again when you get around 580 or get a secured card with them if you can.

AMEX Delta SkyMiles Blue Card: 10K, AMEX Bread Cash Back: 22k, PenFed PCR: 17.5K, PenFed Gold: 10K, FNBO: 19.1K, CapOne Venture: 6.1K. Chase Amazon: 6K, Gamestop 3k, GM Rewards 2K, Apple Card 4.5K, Tomo 1K, American Express 19.5K (AU), Ally 3.3K AMEX BCP 25K, Lowe's: 35K

Re: Capital One Blacklist

I've been getting this message for the past 6 years since my bankruptcy in Feb 2018. the charge was only $400 and I even called them to pay it off the balance to see if that would help and they said no there's nothing for me to pay off anymore. I spent so many hours on the phone with them but it was no help.
