Capital One Blacklisted forever?

i had a capital one account back in 2016, charged it off in 2017, paid it off, and was "blacklisted" for a little bit with the message

"Based on your Pre-Approval form information, we observed activity on a prior Capital One account that is not consistent with our expectations for account usage or the terms of the account agreement".

Flash forward to a year later and they accepted me. Unfortunately I charged off the account again (don't worry, I am no longer an absolute idiot and pay my cards off completely), I did pay it off tho. Now it's been almost 4 years since the last charge off and I'm still blacklisted with the same message. Is this just forever now since I've had 2 charge offs?

Re: Capital One Blacklisted forever?

I've been participating on this board for several years now and you are the first I've seen in this situation of having annoyed CapOne twice.  Sorry to say, you might just be the guinea pig for others to follow.  Hopefully you get back in with them soon.

Question, have you tried applying for one of their secured credit cards, say the secured Quicksilver?

I can't imagine that they'd blacklist you, given that you actually paid them back, and also considering there are multiple examples cited here of people burning Cap1 in BK and still getting approved for unsecured CCs months later.

Re: Capital One Blacklisted forever?

No I have not. I don't really want a secured credit card. I also heard Capital one isnt that great of a card to be stressed about, I don't know how true that is though.

That's a good question lol. I haven't really done any research about it yet since they won't accept me anyways. I've just seen people in forums talking about how it "isn't that great" but with no explanation

capital one can offer great cards, relatively speaking, to people with poor credit that other issuers won't touch

so they aren't 'objectively' great offerings (as a whole) but in the context of people with damaged credit, they are top tier in what they can offer relative to the rest of the market

savor one is a top tier cash back card, and they offer it to literally anybody that can qualify for as little as $300 in unsecured credit, you aren't getting those cash back categories or benefits anywhere else which poor/no credit like that

venture x/savor one combo is also a top-tier (overall) travel setup if you can take advantage of cap1 miles for your travel

I would argue for the following:

  • Quicksilver; a decent, but not great flat rewards card given it only has a 1.5% reward.  That said, CapOne cash rewards are really easy to use, like say, at Amazon checkout.
  • Savor and SavorOne; the former gives great tiered rewards, but at the expense of an annual fee of $95; the latter is considered one of the better tiered cash rewards cards with no annual fee.
  • VentureOne , Venture, and Venture X; pretty decent travel cards.  The best at their respective annual fee price points?  Maybe not, but lots of folks swear by them.

FWIW, I understand not wanting a secured card; that said, after my Chapter 13 I finally got my rebuild kicked off with a secured card, albeit with a high(ish) limit of $5,000.  With nothing other than my gut instincts to go on, I credit this one card with my ability to get approved for several "prime" cards.

Re: Capital One Blacklisted forever?

Suspect that any account with Cap 1 would be a bucket CC. Wait it out.
