I have been contemplating adding the Capital One Venture X card. My wife has a Quicksilver card and when I did the pre-approval form they said that she was pre-approved for the Venture X. I decided to check my pre-approvals too to see what they said. Now I am already very familiar with Capital One because we have been dealing with them for 12 plus years. I knew that they were not a fan of people with a lot of open revolving accounts and with me having 27 accounts, I went into the pre-approval anticipating my chances might not be favorable. What I didn't expect though was the card, yes 1 card they said I am eligible for!
They told me I was eligible for the secured Quicksilver card! With scores in the 700's and 800's, card utilization lower than 1% and 27 cards all reporting on time payments, no late payments and a credit history that extends back 18+ years, that was the only option. It made me literally shake my head and laugh! Needless to say I will not be applying for the secured Quicksilver or the Venture X on my profile. I'm already an authorized user on my wife's Quicksilver card and we've been trying to product change that to a Savor One for 2 years but it hasn't been an option, so I don't need a duplicate of that card. Not sure yet if I will apply on my wife's behalf. Will need to discuss that with her. Figured I'd just share this as a data point!
For the pre-approval tool there was an option to get pre-approved for any of the Quicksilver, Savor, and Platinum cards along with the Venture and Venture One cards. That's what I did initially where I received the Quicksilver card offer. Then I went to the Venture X card and there was an option there to see if you're pre-approved for that card specifically. That's how I got the reason for my denial, which was too many open revolving accounts.
Sorry for the decline. I just went on the regular pre-approval and got 2 secured versions. LOL!

Dont worry too much they do that **bleep** all the time. Its just Cap 1 being Cap 1. They do like thinner profiles though. My DW got a little over a month or so ago got the Venture card with a starting SL of 10K and I was messing around this morning with the limit increase button and got her a 5k increase! The card is not even 2 months old. I didnt even know they did that. So with them you just never know.

@hawkins oh wow! Very nice! congratulations on that approval and limit increase so soon after the approval! Love seeing things like this!
The experience with Capital One today is just another bad experience with them on a growing list of things I wish they did differently. They are my least favorite issuer out of all the banks I have cards with. That's one reason we only have the Quicksilver card. We have multiple cards with almost every issuer but them.
That is their way of saying you have too many inquiries/new accounts and thanks but no thanks to you.. go a year without a new card/inquiry and that will likely change

@CreditCuriosity Thank you for the tip!

Cap One is probably shaking their head and laughing too.
"Why does anyone need 27 credit cards?"
DECLINED!
