Capital One lists credit level guidelines. Maybe it's outdated or not something they follow. My BK was discharged about 3 years ago. I have their Savor and QuickSilver cards. Both probably fall under the catagory of Good Credit because they didn't have a SUB. The cards have grown nicely. Going by their guidelines, I should be in the Fair catagory.
Currently I'm looking at their Venture card. I do a lot of traveling and that one has a very nice SUB (Up to $1000 in travel bonuses). Venture comes up when I look at my upgrade offers so I'm guessing I'd be approved if I applied for the card over doing an upgrade. I'll use their pre-qualification before I apply to see what it says. My scores generally range from around 665-695 depending on the CB and UTI.
Anyway, do these guidelines really hold any water?

Sounds like you're in their "Fair" category which aligns with your scores and past. I wouldn't put too much thought in to this chart...

not really
the only question that matters is "does cap1 like my profile" and if the answer is yes, they will hand out SUBs give out thousands in credit lines, and basically give you everything you ask of them until the end of time
the type of profiles Cap1 likes are way different than what is described above, it's much more complex than they like the people who are green and they dislike the people who are orange.
they don't like all subprime/bk people
they don't like all prime/superprime people
they like different subsets of both of those groups, and trying to define exactly what they like in both groups is a bit tough
based on your cards and your limits, they do like you, if you want the Venture or Venture X, do the pre-approval tool and if it says yes, go for it

The reason I like that you posted these guidelines is because not because I think you can trust them explicitly, but they get us thinking about things other than scores as the approval criteria. You notice they do not refer to scoring at all.
So, yeah, I think they hold water, but they are also general enough to not be taken as gospel and I'd be careful assuming they are perfect descriptions that align to perfect categories.
I would say they do matter somewhat because I know someone who had all 3 scores over 740, which would generally be considered "excellent credit"
however they did not meet capital ones requirement of " having a credit card for 3 years with a limit of 5,000" in order to be considered for excellent requirement cards. They ended up getting the "good credit" version of the quicksilver without the sub. Despite the fact that their scores were more than good enough to be considered excellent.
By this guideline I'm definitely Rebuilding Credit and/or Excellent Credit!
@Cblough93They are rough guidelines at most. I did not at the time of application and still don't meet all of the conditions spelled out for excellent credit and have 2 cards that got the subs (Savor and Venture X). They're still my strongest limits from any lender.
I am go to say it is a YMMV situation and the chart is just a guideline. I was looking at that chart earlier this week. I couldn't figure how it applied to me since I don't meet the Good Credit criteria.
06/23 - BK 7 Discharged
09/23 - Was getting tons of mail for credit. The CapOne offer was for the Platinum Secured (Rebuilder) - I declined it
12/23 - Received another mail from CapOne. Approved for a Platinum MC $3,000 (Fair)
07/24 - Product changed the Platinum to QuickSilver (Good) **Note 1 year from BK
08/24 - Approved for a Savor $3,000 (Good) **Also, 1 year from BK
03/25 - Received email telling me that I can move credit limit. I moved QS down to $1,000 and bumped up Savor to $5,000
You usually don't get a sign-up bonus when you upgrade a credit card from the same issuer. Sign-up bonuses are usually only available to new cardholders.
