Re: Capital One Denial "Usage too low"

I applied for a CLI yesterday on the quicksilver, CL currently sitting at 500. The denial letter says "Recent use of this account's existing credit line has been too low". Sounds like they want me to nearly max it out every month before approving an increase. Any advice?

Many of us CapOne card holders have seen that message, myself included.  The funny thing is, my Quicksilver was getting regular and substantial unrequested CLIs before I stopped using it (I've replaced it with a CFU), however, my SavorOne card, with a very similar amount of usage, always gets the same message you are getting.  One of the things which annoys me the most about CapOne is they seem to love folks in the middle score range, really low scores and you're bucketed, really high scores and you are either denied when you apply, or are approved with a low limit.  For me at least, it is double annoying because for the last 7 or so months I've had a rather substantial down payment for a new home (if/when I find one) sitting in one of their savings accounts; and yeah, that money is many-MANY times the combined credit limit of both my CapOne cards.

Also like you, this is getting just annoying enough to push me to sock-drawer my SavorOne in favor of, heck, I don't know, maybe an NFCU More Rewards card; I figure the Annual Fee of $49 will be well worth no longer needing to be frustrated by CapOne.

Re: Capital One Denial "Usage too low"

I applied for a cli on qs after six months.  Initial limit was 2k, I got +500. Tried again short of another six months, turned down. Meanwhile, amex started at 6k, got auto increase at 6 months to 9k. Cap1 is pretty tight.

I just looked at the NFCU card offerings and got the above wrong; the More Rewards does in fact appear to be a good replacement for the SavorOne, however, it has no AF; it is the Flagship Rewards which has the $49 annual fee.  I guess once we find a new house to buy and get the mortgage closed, I'll probably apply for More Rewards; that way my SavorOne can keep my Quicksilver company in the sock drawer.  Smiley LOL
