I started off with a Capital One Journey student card and it wasn't really getting much use since I have other cards with better rewards systems, so I figured I would ask if I could do a product change. Considering the oldest account I have is only 10 months, AAOA is 5 months, and I have a pretty thin file, I wasn't expecting much, but I was thoroughly surprised when the agent on the secure chat told me they saw an offer for me to upgrade to a Quicksilver card and lower my APR to 17% (which is still high, but I never carry balances anyway)! I was looking at what Capital One considers to be excellent credit, which looks like a 3+ year credit history, and I definitely don't meet that. The only scores I've recently viewed are CK's FAKO scores, which were 726 TU 730 EQ.
Nice.. Enjoy your upgrade. What Capital One considers "average credit", "good credit" is murky at best so take that with a pinch of salt.
I agree. Capitol One has a twisted definition of what is normal for credit. They also in general have lower barriers to entery. Grab that Quicksilver and APR decrease and run with it if they are offering. The Journey is designed for a student who might not have much credit history or might have messed up already slightly. It is not designed for a thin profile or someone new to credit. The diffrence is that students have Department of Education loans on their profile that make them look diffrent in the credit profiles.
