Capital One Platinum Denial

First let me say I have been lurking this forum for the past few months and have been able to clean up so much of my credit! Thank you!

A few nights ago I apped for the Capital One (Classic if I can remember correctly) Platinum card and was automatically denied. I received my electronic letter of reason and it stated the following:

  • Based on your credit report from Experian, your credit bureau report had missing information about an account or accounts
  • Based on your credit report from Experian, too few or no accounts are rated as satisfactory
  • Based on your credit report from Experian, number of delinquent past or present credit obligations
  • Based on your credit report from Trans Union, number of delinquent past or present credit obligations

My current Experian score is 640. I have one baddie that I have been working hard on having deleted. It isn't due to fall off until 2016. No revolving accounts. And an auto loan that was last reported in 2008 (paid and no lates). 1 reported inquiry. My Trans Union looks just about the same but without any baddies.

I took my shot at asking for a recon on the app but the representative stated that he didn't have the reasons as to why I was denied and that all they could do is re-app with a HP. I've read so many positive recon testimonies that this really put me in the lowest spirits. Isn't something else supposed to happen on the other end of the line? I explained my ONE credit blemish and he still seemed clueless. I understand that I don't have established credit but is my only way to a higher score with a secured card!? Heck, I have even tried the shopping cart trick the past new nights and nothing has bit.

I'm just a sad kid kicking a can. I'm not sure what else to do other than pay into a secured card. Suggestions? Remarks on the recon or choice of card?

Re: Capital One Platinum Denial

Try Barclaycard Rewards. If you have no baddies on TU you should be a shoe in and it is a single TU pull! This will get your revolving history start building (I assume you have no cards at the moment? ) in 3-6 months you can get another card perhaps a CU and WM 6-12 months Amex, Citi and Chase will hook you up.

You don't need capital one if you only have one baddie reporting don't risk any more triple pulls on a card you will likely want to drop in 6 months lol
If anyone needs me I will be In The Garden. Goal Score: 760 for all in 2015.
Current FICO Scores EX: 715 EQ: 756 TU: 762
Last APP April 21, 2015.
Victim of The great AMEX HP heist of Dec 1st, 2nd and 3rd of 2014.

Re: Capital One Platinum Denial

Barclay might indeed let you in if you have no baddies on TU.

The Capital One 3 Pull kiss of death makes me avoid them now even though they were gold for me when I first started.  I certainly wouldn't risk another 3 inquiries in addition to the other 3 (6 HP's ouch!!)  When I didn't know better, I applied 3 times to CapOne and denied 3 times for 9 HP's  I finally got approved for a card with 3 more pulls so I had 12 HP's from Capital One across my 3 credit reports.

Back on subject, I would recommend you try the Shopping Cart Trick.  Easy tradelines since you have none.

Re: Capital One Platinum Denial

Unfortunately, I only know my Fako TU. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to see what "delinquencies" pop up on my Credit Karma if any. I'll then proceed to app for the Barclay.

I had no idea Cap One hit you that many times! Sheesh. Now that is something I've never seen on this forum. Thank you for the suggestions. I'm open to anymore should you have them.
