Great to be here on this forum. I'm determined to improve my scores with some proactive action, after languishing for years with a mediocre score and profile!
I just applied and was approved for a Cap One QS. However, I was surprised to hear that my initial CL was only $500, as I have two other cards, one of which is a Cap One Platinum with a $1K limit (due for a CLI request again in two months). My utilization across 3 existing cards is 0% today, but was sitting at 20% overall, and 90% on one card when I submitted due to a reporting delay on a PIF. Everything is PIF now.
I have 100% on time with Cap One and all other credit cards, but a couple of baddies on a mortgage that was modified last year and a contested CO on a car lease that has been requested removed by the car dealer (alleged excessive wear that was not documented, otherwise the lease was auto-pay, 100% on-time). My EX FICO as of today is 655, TU 696 - both should improve after the CO is removed and one of the older baddies falls in a few months.
I got the email saying the card has been mailed. Should I call for a recon on the CL of the QS card before I receive it? I know it's a step card and they normally only CLI every 6 months. But it seems I should be able to do better on the new Cap One card as an existing customer. Thoughts?
Congrats on the approval. But you can't recon with CAP 1. You may have to reach out ot EO for that..
The scores they pulled when you applied were low. You probably should have waited (if you didn't have a deadline to apply on a prequal letter) until all 3 bureaus had the negatives deleted.
Your other card started out at $500 and was increased to $1000 from $500. You have nothing to lose contacting the EO after you get the card. Unless you have some other cards with higher limits, you probably won't do better unless you can talk them into matching the $1000 limit on your other card.
