So, I was looking around for a good 'daily driver' rewards card and I bounced back and forth between the Citi Double Cash and the QuickSilver. Nearly went with the double cash, but decided on CapOne because they gave me my first card a year ago (a secured card) and their app is easy to use and intuitive.
Anyway, I was approved, but that was the single most underwhelming approval i've ever gotten.
"You've been approved! Expect your card in 7-10 business days along with account information".
Is that normal? I was at least expecting an email.
Anyway, how my decision? I nearly went with the Chase Freedom but I realized, like with my Discover It, there will be long period where I will not gain anything from their rotating categories. The double cash was tempting, but honestly the ugly card coupled with a fear they'll nerf the point structure led me to capital one.
How's my portfolio?
Amex EveryDay - $7500 CL. - I absolutely ditest the point structure on this one. It seemed like an inordinate amount of work trying to redeem my points for a 1p:$1.
Discover IT - $4800 CL. - Love it, but I got it at the tail end of the 5% back on gas category so I have used it sparingly.
Walmart MC - $4300 CL. It is what it is. This card buys me a pack of gum every 3 months and is sock drawered unless I need a new pair of tires.
Secured CapOne - $200CL. I funnel my monthly subscriptions through this card to keep it active, but other than that I haven't swiped it in forever.
Getting the CapOne Quicksilver visa was because I wanted a visa, darn it. Also, outside of grocery stores + 20 swipes, the everyday is just a generic 1% CB card that ends up being a lot less than 1 point for 1 dollar card (at least the way I redeem them).
I love my quicksilver for general spend. You'll be happy with it. Easy no hassle rewards.
The approval message you received is normal
That was the same exact message I got for my Venture and Spark Business Cash cards. No other information was provided (CL, APR, etc). I had to call for the CL and had to wait for the APR in the welcome packet. Congrats!
I dunno. I used to think BCP was the best, but it is looking like the Amex EDP is also nice. Plus 50% more points after 30 transactions. Have you considered PC'ing to the preferred?
I think your profile looks good! You could probably close the Cap1 secured card at this point if you want, seems like you've really outgrown it.
Congrats on Quicksilver!
Amex Everyday (and EDP) are for those that want to earn MR points; if you are looking for straight cashback, you're best off with a cashback card. I've heard MR points are horrible for cashback.
Same message with my VentureOne approval, I got a letter in the mail saying what the cl and apr are about 5 days later.
I think it is something new from Cap1 because my QS1 and QS always showed cl and apr after the approval screen.
Funny thing is if you try to link the account its there but need the full credit card number to link it.
You can redeem MR points for gift cards at 1cpp.
