taking care of those derogs. That'll open you up to more generous lenders.

I did have two collections one for $500 and one for $300 that are 2-3 years old. I got the collection agency's to agree to a PFD (I paid on Thursday). So hoping that can bring me back up to the 600s for a possible cli increase. If not then I'll probably have to start looking for a new card.

Again with that string of lates being that recent, about the only cards that will even consider you will be the extreme predators.

I have a 90-day late from 5 years ago and that still gets thrown in my face every time I as for a CLI with anyone or am denied credit.

You are going to have to wait until this lates age at least a couple of years.

At the risk of sounding harsh, you don't seem to get just how bad it was to do that.

I get it!  When I was in my 20s I was terrible.  I viewed due dates more like a guideline rather than a rule.  I thought "what's the big deal!  As long as they get paid and I'm paying the late fees, they should be happy to have me as a customer!"

Here I am 25 years later (I'm a slow learner plus life can get really nasty when you get divorced and are a single mom) and still trying to repair damage from 5+ years ago.  Even with scores in the 600s I couldn't get approved for Discover  or Wells Fargo SECURED ... much less reasonable unsecured cards.

You need AT LEAST 24 months of on time payments now to even start putting that string of lates behind you and hope some lenders might look past them.  THAT should be your goal now... not trying to get more credit.  Trust me, if keeping track of one card is difficult for you, keeping track of multiple cards is going to require a level of discipline and anal retentiveness that you haven't demonstrated so far.

Im sorry to sound so harsh.  Just wish I had learned this lesson 25 years ago!

@designated_knitter I appreciate your transparency, many of us wished we could turn back the hands of time and do things differently especially me, however not crying over spilled milk, using the knowledge learned here and improving over time. Best wishes on your credit journey.
