Capital One "Too many accounts"

So i got declined for a Capital One QS1 last week, they sent me an email today that i can see the reason on PDF through their website link they had sent me. I open the PDF and it said "Based on your application information, there are too many Capital One accounts." on the top it stated they did not bother pulling my CR??. I have ONE Capital One card... and its a Secured Card!, I do have a Saks FIfth Ave store card although. but is 1 secured card really too many revolving accounts for them?.

Re: Capital One "Too many accounts"

Try the pre qual and see what they qualify you for, if anything. They might let you have the Platinum and you can close the secured, then app for the QS1 in 30 days or wait 6 months and PC the Platinum to a QS1.

Re: Capital One "Too many accounts"

You can have 2 rebuilder cards. The rebuilders are the Plat Secured and QS1. You can have 5 accounts in total including rebuilder and prime. For instance I have QS1, Plat and Sony. I can only get the QS, V, V1 and Buypower cards at this point and I could only get two more cards. I have no idea why you were denied with one secured card.

Re: Capital One "Too many accounts"

That doesn't make sense, you are allowed two rebuilders. I would call and ask what's up, more than likely it is an excuse, but I would double check.

Re: Capital One "Too many accounts"

Not to bring back an older thread, but I got this message a while back too.  I wondered what the deal was, but never called them or did anything with it.  I check the pre-qual all the time and there is never anything there - I just figured my scores aren't good enough yet.  I have a Journey, a QS1, and a Sony.  After being part of these forums for a minute - I am guessing that most (if not all) of my Cap1 cards are rebuilders... which means I can't get another card until those are off my account list.

I will be interested to see if I will be able to combine the Sony and Journey into my QS1 when I have them paid off - and as a result - what I might be pre-qualified for then...

Re: Capital One "Too many accounts"

I believe the Journey is considered a subprime along with the Plat, QS1 and Secured.  However I have heard lately of people having one of each, maybe Cap One changed their minds again about it.

Re: Capital One "Too many accounts"

I looked into this a little while ago.

The T&C of the Secured, Platinum, QS1 and Journey all state 2 cards.

The T&C of QS, Venture and Venture1 say 5 cards.

Since there are some cobranded cards in the mix here, that's still 2 Cap One cards which could be why there are denials for other lower tier cards.
