Capital one CLI

Hi  I've been with cap 1 since 2016.  Started as a secured card with a $300 limit. Then abt 6 months later, they graduated it to a regular card with a $700 limit.  I was charging to the max which isnt good and i  never asked for a cli.  I started getting serious abt my credit and paid my balance down from $700 to currently $50.00.  My payment history is excellent with them.  Today i  decided to request my first cli via their automated phone system and was told i will receive a letter.  I assume i was denied?  Has anyone else applied via cap 1 automated phone system was told they will receive a letter and still was approved?

Re: Capital one CLI

The only CLIs that I've gotten with Cap 1 are the ones that are granted automatically through the automated system. I'll say this though, in my experience in order to get a credit limit increase from capital one you must heavily spend on the card, but not max it out. What I found is best is heavily spend pay a huge payment, heavily spend, pay another huge payment, all in the same month. Do that for a couple of months and you should be good to go as long as it's been many months since you've had any derogatory action on the account and a few months since you've maxed out. DP for my experience: I had Quicksilver One with $1100 credit limit and Platinum with $500 credit limit. Had some issues in the distant past, including a couple of late payments and constant max out or over limit in 2018. I started paying on time religiously and in fall of 2019 I started the heavy spend, multiple payments per month routine on the QS1. Tried for CLI around October and November and no go. About 10 days after my most recent denial for CLI, I hit the button again and they gave me a $2000 CLI all at once to $3100, which at that time was my highest limit by far. So I hit the button also on the platinum and denied. Did a month of heavy spend, payment, heavy spend, payment, all in the same month. Hit the button again after the month and they doubled me to $1000. Since then, as I wait for 6 months to pass so I can ask again, they've upgraded QS1 to Venture One and Platinum to QS 1. I am continuing to make large payments each month and sometimes more than once a month. My major challenge now is that I have also since gotten some other better credit cards and I'm trying to give some spend love to those cards too, especially NFCU Cash Rewards. I am hoping to either upgrade again to the Savor card with capital one, or to add a third card with them and make it Savor. The CSR told me that I can have more than two capital one cards. I'm pretty sure the limit of only two cards is when theyre the subprime variety. We shall see. I'm a little frustrated that I can't get the capital one prequalify system to tell me that I'm prequalified for Savor. I've gotten my FICO scores up high enough that I believe I should be approved. But I hate to risk the HP and get denied. So I'm biding my time. To be clear, by heavy spend I mean things I'm going to have to buy anyway, I just put on that card instead of using cash or a debit card or something like that.

I haven't applied for CLI via the automated phone system. But I have with the mobile app and it's worked more often than not. The app will allow you to access the letter alot sooner than it will take to get one in the mail. Now to be honest, if you were approved you'd probably get a confirmation immediately. That's what happened when I did through the mobile app. You can also apply for CLI on their website. I opened a card in March 2019, got an increase around September then applied for another CLI in March. Anytime I was denied I got a letter that I could access in the app. It didn't stop me from trying, but when I was approved it was instant on my screen. Long story short, a letter instead of a confirmation is not a sign that you are about to get that increase. Silver lining, KEEP TRYING. Hope this helps. Also if the current card is not giving you a CLI, go on their site and do the prequal. If you prequalify I would go with that and maybe start with a card on the credit steps program so then at least you know after 5 months of on time payments that HAVE TO increase. Then 6 months and 1 day after your last increase, try again.

Re: Capital one CLI

When they say "receive a letter" usually it means denial and they will list you the reason why. Like others had said, Cap1 wanted you to spend more on their card. For my case I have three cards, in the past as in long time ago for me they used to be generous by giving me the auto CLI but not so much these past few years. I have three cards with them and even if I spend a lot on one card and PIF they are still looking at my other card balances and activities for my attempts for manual CLI. They will send me the letter saying I don't have enough activites on my card even though that same card was being used heavily and PIF. Few years later, I understand the reason why as I stated above. 17 years and 7 months for the oldest card and 13 years for the other two cards. Don't worry though as long as you follow what they say on the letter you will be alright. However, They don't give a big amount of CLI like they used to on personal card at least from what I am reading on this forum. Recently I keep getting a lot of weird ad on my Google App from Capital One: Find Your Next Card Offer Check to see if you're pre-qualified. It's quick, easy and won't hurt your credit score. I doubt I will be getting anything but will try the pre-qualified once one of my balance is updated.

Re: Capital one CLI

All you have to do is request CLI's online. That will usually give you a better answer. Did you ever get your security deposit back?

Re: Capital one CLI

Hi yes i did receive my deposit back.  Also i just received a letter from them yesterday saying I'm preapproved for an auto loan.  If my credit isnt good enough for a CLI why would they offer me an auto loan?  I'm confused..

Saw a few data points showing that it is (more times than not) easier to get another Cap1 card or auto loan than it is getting a CLI.

Something to do with how they internally bucket your card.

I started my rebuild with Cap1 (Thank you Cap1) and 6 months later got another one but the way they hard pull your credit is a turnoff for me (3 Pulls what the...).  Thus I don't see me getting another one, I will just take care of the 2 I have.
