Not necessarily. I have three. When I attempted to see which other cards I could get, I was told I have the maximum number of cards allowed. So, for me, it's three. And for clarity: NONE of them was ever a starter/sub-prime/secured card. They're a Quicksilver MC, a Quicksilver Visa, and a Walmart Rewards MC.
Cobranded (Walmart card) cards don't count towards the 2-card limit @SoCalGardener.
