Are credit card approvals based on FICO score alone? I am asking because I declared bankruptcy a year ago and don't want to take a hard hit unnecessarily. Bankruptcy was discharged a year ago and student loans have been rehabilitated as of this month but have not been updated on my credit report. Eq.= 620 Exp=601 Trans=564
Scores are pretty low. Do you have any current cards? I'd try to get the score up a bit and then maybe apply for a secured card through Capital One. (they may offer unsecured with a very low limit, like $300)
I have Kohls charge 3 months old with a $300 limit. Also have a Capital One auto loan I obtained right after bk discharged. I am hoping once student loan rehabilitation is updated on my credit report my score will raise.

If you have a car loan with Capital One and have paid on time for 5-6 months, they will very likely give you a Platinum card.
Thanks for the advice. I will try capital one.
HEY well i was almos same as you 3 years ago tons of collection late payment and charge off . Today im sit on 700cs and more than 35k on cc plus 3 auto loan, best advice is
1- open a secure card used as cash pay in full 5 days before due day see when the bill cut and make a smal charge 5 dollars wait until the bill cut and doing again
2- try to get AU from your mom
3 wait 6 moths and app for cap 1
now you have 3 card reporting wait 6 moths and app for a credit union like NASA,PENFED appd for they card and do the same thing use then paying in full you will see your credit score
