Applied for AMX everyday card denied twice. Have green card and as with all my cards excellent payment history. Called and they said ficoscore score 660 from exp and credit to debt ratio. Told them exp score is 694 ficoscore 694 according to experian own website, in addition not to give me that standard debt /ratio to high because I just purchased a home two years ago and what the hell do you expect. Told him on 80k with of available credit, utilization was only 1%, He says he is sending to underwriter for recon. I say to this community if not approved I am going to send that green card back along with the denial letter and along with my chase sapphire approval letter for 12k and Chase Merriott approval for 19k (Mod Cut-Such Language is not necessary on this board.)

That'll show um. You go bro !!! 😂😂😝😝

I wonder what score gets you in the door.

Over 720, preferably clean report (how I got in with secured card, 500, and rebuilder 1250, approved 3500 SL).  Clean with some credit card history better than some dirt with lots of store cards.

Ok well i have a transunion credit score of 670. I get my credit scores free from my capitalone credit cards as well as use credit karma to track my credit score. My credit score as gone up from the past year and have 2 credit cars with capital one, 1 auto service card (discount tire) and a best buy credit card. The 2 capital one credit cards are a quick silver one card ($3000 CL) and a secured card ($500 limit). Currently my quicksilver card is my everyday card.

I was thinking about ditching the secured card and get another credit card for everyday purchases. I originally was going to sign up for a Chase Freedom card but I saw it was getting bad reviews from credit karma users as well as CK giving me a "Fair" odd of approval. I then noticed credit karm recommended the American Express Blue Cash everyday card with a "good" approval. I was hesitant to apply because I know American Express is pretty selective with issuing credit to new people without great. The fact that it didnt have a annual fee (my cap one cards do) and that it gives great rewards for groceries and that I had a "good" chance of being approved, i figured id go with that.

Anyways I applied on Friday, but ended up getting denied. I called later that night to a recon number thats been posted on here but it was already late and the department was closed. I did however findout the reason for denial and it was becuase of my credit score. Im not 100% sure if thats was the automated message said since it was before a crazy weekend.

Should I even try talking to a recon number anaylst? I know it wouldnt hurt to try (unless they do a hard pull) but not even I am very confident on what to say to make myself credit worth as i only applied cause i thought I had a good chance from credit karma.

Little background on my credit score:

The score is low because in 2008 when i just turned 18, i opened up a credit card that went into deregatory. The bank sold it to a debt collector who then sold it to another collector so it looks like theres 2 accounts open from that debt (which im trying to get fixed). I have $40k in student loans, $10k a private lstudent loan and $30k from federal student loan. Ive been paying the interest on the loans the latter part of my undergrad but am about to graduate so those loans repayment will start kicking into effect.

I interned last summer and was offered a full-time spot so am already making $55k this year. I pay in full for my secure card and most of the time on my quick silver card ( I say most because Im still having the 0% apr intro rate until May).

I am almost betting you could have been approved for the AMEX Everyday card. The BC/BCP is harder to get approved for.

Is that really true about the BC/BCP being more difficult to get approved for ?? Has that been the case for most people applying ?? Thanks.

I mean, I hate to turn the knife after the damage is done, but you should be informed.  I am not saying that BCP is harder to attain vs ED only because of Credit Karma, but even the reps on the phone said the ED was was one of their starter products for lower scores.  We have someone with 760 range getting offers left and right for Blue Cash Preferred with $250 off $1000 and also Everyday Preferred with 15-20k MR points, and a few others. My score is lower by 100 pts almost and all I was seeing offers for online/mail was ED.

How many inquiries do you have?

To the more knowledgeable members here, do you guys think it is too late to apply via again and maybe the two HPs could condense down to one?

Would it be possible for OP to call in to EO and basically state they made a mistake in the product they applied for and meant to do the ED (if our assumptions are in fact true that it doesnt have as high of a score requirement as the bcp)

I really think there has to be something that can be done besides wait and try again. Maybe the two products are equally hard to get and your 08 prob is the culprit. Have you called in to ask what exactly was the issue?

Creditboards credit pull database is a skewed sample to look at also. I am basically

I did the same thing. Apped for bcp instead of ED. Was denied with a 645 ex at the time. Wish I had seen this post. I would have definitely tried calling to switch. 👆🏻

Re: Chance of a American Express Denial Recon?

Based upon info submitted IMO profile doesnt really support for Amex, even ED. Thing is, ppl can become overly optimistic reading of others approvals with somewhat borderline profiles. This has then been interpreted too often as the norm when in actuality it is nothing more than an anomaly. Hav talked about this previously. Anomalies happen but one should not base their approval odds on them - and most certainly not on the approval odds of CK.

Amex doesnt do recons based on accurate info. Nor does one get a do over. The ED card is now considered the entry level revolver but a minimum standard is still required for approval. That some fall between the cracks (and are approved) should not be taken as an indication of those standards having been lowered.

Bottom line...

Overall credit profile should be strengthened. As mentioned previously, Cap1 & CK scores meaningless and Amex pulls EX. Use score based on Amex denial letter as basis for improving credit and then re-app (possibly 90 days from denial???) once profile has been 'accurately' reevaluated.

Ya gotta admit though, falling through the crack ain't always a bad thing! I have fallen many times!

I have to say Existentialist, this is one of the best answers I've seen on here, very well put.  I would say though things that look like they may have fallen though the cracks are not always that.  I think that the whole profile has to be taken into account.  If you look at my scores I would not say that it is Amex worthy.  But what you cant see is that in a previous life I had a five year relationship with Amex that was very good.  I did not burn them so getting back with them was made a little easier (I already had some internal scoring).  So I full agree when looking at others approvals it is not good to think that well they got in, so should I.  What I do is look at the denials and base my thoughts and profile on that.  I think that is way more accurate.  (just my 2 cents).

Amex Gold / Amex Platinum / Amex Marriott Brilliant/ Amex BCP/ Capital One Venture (AU) / Capital One Savor One/ Discover / NFCU Cash Rewards / BOA Unlimited Cash Rewards / NFCU GO Rewards (AU) / Amex EDP / NFCU Flagship Rewards / Chase Freedom (AU) / Capital One QuickSilver / Citi Costco (AU) / Amex Delta

Re: Chance of a American Express Denial Recon?

I applied on April 29, 2015 for the American Express Everyday Credit Card.

I waited for about 5 days before getting notified that I have been declined.

I called the backdoor number and asked for a reconsideration. They did submit my application again (no new HP) and told me to call back in 5-7 days.

I called back after 5 days and was told that I once again got declined. The reason for the decline is because I have high balances in some of my credit cards.

They advised me to re-apply again once my balances have gone low. I asked for the credit report they got and I was told that my score was at 686.

So I called again June 17, 2015 for another reconsideration (if I still qualify cause I know it's only supposed to be within 30 days).

I was told that they have to pull another credit report. I told them to go ahead with it. They asked me to call back withint 5-7 business days.

I am feeling much better now with my finances that's why I decided to re-apply. I have about 32% utilization all in all.

I called back just today and found out that I have been declined once again!

The reasons are the same and when I asked about the date on my credit report, they said it was from April 29, 2015!
So it looked like they never refreshed my report since then! Anyway, I took it as a sign and just decided to forget getting a new card from American Express!
