@kimjks2003 wrote:I applied on April 29, 2015 for the American Express Everyday Credit Card.
I waited for about 5 days before getting notified that I have been declined.
I called the backdoor number and asked for a reconsideration. They did submit my application again (no new HP) and told me to call back in 5-7 days.I called back after 5 days and was told that I once again got declined. The reason for the decline is because I have high balances in some of my credit cards.
They advised me to re-apply again once my balances have gone low. I asked for the credit report they got and I was told that my score was at 686.
So I called again June 17, 2015 for another reconsideration (if I still qualify cause I know it's only supposed to be within 30 days).
I was told that they have to pull another credit report. I told them to go ahead with it. They asked me to call back withint 5-7 business days.
I am feeling much better now with my finances that's why I decided to re-apply. I have about 32% utilization all in all.
I called back just today and found out that I have been declined once again! The reasons are the same and when I asked about the date on my credit report, they said it was from April 29, 2015!
So it looked like they never refreshed my report since then! Anyway, I took it as a sign and just decided to forget getting a new card from American Express!
While you may not have been approved regardless, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. I would continue to call and call until they either A. Remove this 2nd hard pull, or B. Actually use your up to date credit info for a real Recon.

The thing is, they never did a 2nd Hard Pull. They relied on the only report they have which has been almost 2 months old!
I even offered to cut over a portion of the credit limit from my AmEx Costco Card to the new card i'm applying to but they told me they can't do it.
Maybe I should just call again in a few weeks and ask.
I don't want any new HPs against my credit report so i'll just hope that by the time I call again, they have new reports in their hands (if that's even going to work).

Wait a minute. You are already a AMEX cardholder. So its only a SP for you to get approved. Then I think if you do get the card its a HP. You should be fine after a few phone calls to some smart people.
According to myfico posts, people are saying that blue cash and everyday have the same underwriting critera. They are marketed towards different people. But from other sites, it does show more approvals in the 600's with the ED.
They are working with an old report. Thats the problem.

Yeah. I currently hold an AmEx CostCo Card with a $5,000 limit.
By next year Costco and AmEx are ending their partnership and I would really want to keep my credit card with AmEx that's also why I'm trying to get a new card from them.
Would it be logical to just wait for a few more weeks (less than 30 days) before I try for another reconsideration?
I would really like to be reconsidered without running the risk of them having to do another HP against my credit report.
If I wait for a couple more weeks, I was thinking maybe by that time they'll have a more up-to-date report.
Also, if they'll look at my history with the 3 years i've had their card, they won't see any delinquencies or collections.

@Anonymous wrote:Ok well i have a transunion credit score of 670. I get my credit scores free from my capitalone credit cards as well as use credit karma to track my credit score. My credit score as gone up from the past year and have 2 credit cars with capital one, 1 auto service card (discount tire) and a best buy credit card. The 2 capital one credit cards are a quick silver one card ($3000 CL) and a secured card ($500 limit). Currently my quicksilver card is my everyday card.
I was thinking about ditching the secured card and get another credit card for everyday purchases. I originally was going to sign up for a Chase Freedom card but I saw it was getting bad reviews from credit karma users as well as CK giving me a "Fair" odd of approval. I then noticed credit karm recommended the American Express Blue Cash everyday card with a "good" approval. I was hesitant to apply because I know American Express is pretty selective with issuing credit to new people without great. The fact that it didnt have a annual fee (my cap one cards do) and that it gives great rewards for groceries and that I had a "good" chance of being approved, i figured id go with that.
Anyways I applied on Friday, but ended up getting denied. I called later that night to a recon number thats been posted on here but it was already late and the department was closed. I did however findout the reason for denial and it was becuase of my credit score. Im not 100% sure if thats was the automated message said since it was before a crazy weekend.
Should I even try talking to a recon number anaylst? I know it wouldnt hurt to try (unless they do a hard pull) but not even I am very confident on what to say to make myself credit worth as i only applied cause i thought I had a good chance from credit karma.
Little background on my credit score:
The score is low because in 2008 when i just turned 18, i opened up a credit card that went into deregatory. The bank sold it to a debt collector who then sold it to another collector so it looks like theres 2 accounts open from that debt (which im trying to get fixed). I have $40k in student loans, $10k a private lstudent loan and $30k from federal student loan. Ive been paying the interest on the loans the latter part of my undergrad but am about to graduate so those loans repayment will start kicking into effect.
I interned last summer and was offered a full-time spot so am already making $55k this year. I pay in full for my secure card and most of the time on my quick silver card ( I say most because Im still having the 0% apr intro rate until May).
AMEX isn't great for recons. You first need to know your Experian FICO score. That's what AMEX uses. Neither the Credit Karma or Cap One scores are FICO scores and could be significantly different than your FICO score and are basically meaningless in this case.
Also never rely on CK for credit card recommendations. They get paid to promote credit cards. Their approval chances listed are worthless .
I have looked at my reports and noticed Amex hard pulls on my EQ report that didn't have EX pulls at the same day I believe

I also saw in the forums that others are having the same issue. They are not updating peoples reports nor are they pulling updated reports. You should be fine as soon as the reports change. And yes, you would be crazy not to keep an account with the almighty AMEX! And actually I think the True Earnings card you have now has slightly higher requirements with underwriting than the Amex Everyday. I would wait a little, phone in, express you want to keep an account with them after the change. I would look up a comparison chart between the Everyday, Everyday Preferred, Blue Cash, and Blue Cash Preferred. Just in case you may want to product change later on so you know your options are.
I know this thread is a little old but I would like to give my experience on an American Express Denial Recon and how I got APPROVED through the recon! So My brother sent me an invitation to apply for the American Express Everyday Card so he could get the bonus points for having a friend approved. However I was denied at first and this was because my credit report had not changed since I had paid $3500 in debt so my utilization had gone down from 45% to between 10-12% The reason for the denial was that my utilization was too high along with too many inquries in the past 12 months which I knew the last one to be true because I was shopping around for a car and that put 90% of the inquries on the CR. I also had around 6 credit card apps on my CR and explained to the representitive that 2 of them were for my parents to help them out with a couple of things. After I explained this to the representitive she made notes of this and said I would be contacted in 3-5 days. Today was day 2 since I asked her to put it in for reconsideration and I got an email that said congradulations you have been approved! I know that American Express does not really change thier minds when a decision has been made but I am here to let everyone know that it is possible! The score they reported I had was an EU of 678 at the time. Just be polite and positive and anything can happen! They have not told me my limit yet because they said it takes 24-48 hours to post but I was allowed to set up my online account along with the mobile app and the card should be here in 7-10 days!
For reference, my wife has a 679 credit score and is preapproved for both the BCP $250 off $1000 spend with the extra $200 on cellular providers and Amex everyday card with 25k bonus points. Then again....she is an authorized user on both of those cards on my account.
