You had me at "student". As cool as the Gold AMEX may be, can you really afford the $250 AF, or spend so much for the card to pay for itself? I think you should think really hard about that.
The Gold AMEX is made for people with high income who spend a lot. Regardless of your approval chances, I think there are planty of better options for you. Why not a no AF card with similar perks?
Well, my biggest personal expenses are 1) food and 2) amazon. I also spend a lot (a few thousand per year) on plane tickets for work before get reimbursed. Honestly, I just want a card that I can get approved for with my short history that gets good rewards at restaurants, and then maybe I'll pick up the Chase Amazon card at the 1 year mark. Other perks, like extended warranty, are nice but not necessary. Any suggestions?
I'm considering the NFCU cards, especially the Flagship (I will definitely use the GlobalEntry credit) and then either keeping that card long term or possibly product changing to something with better food rewards.
