IME, they may count toward 5/24. Especially if it is an account that is under two years old. If the account is over two years old -- I have two AU accounts and they did not count toward 5/24 when I applied for Chase in September and October of last year.
If the account is under two years and you are denied, a simple call and explanation to the reconsideration department should override that and may lead to approval.
