Chase CLI Strategy - Road to CSR PC

Hey everyone! I am hoping I can maybe get some insights and DPs on Chase CLIs within the first year.

I recently obtained my CSP at the beginning of November with a 6.8K SL which is in line with my other cards. My ultimate goal is to then PC to a CSR. I knew my chances of a CSR straight out would be 0%. So I obviously need to get to 10K CLI for the PC.

Here is my dilemma... I am going to London the first week of December 2020. Well, I don’t get under 5/24 until January 2021. I would really like to get PP and travel protections before then. So my only chance is to get it through CLIs or if I can circumvent 5/24 in June by a in-branch offer on a CF or CFU to transfer lines.

It seems recent DPs are about 4 months of heavy spend after opening and a Auto CLI comes. I can maybe put 2K a month down without it being frivolous spending, so about 30% of my limit. Would this be enough to trigger an autoCLI?

If you can’t tell, this is my first time trying to do CLIs since I have spent the last year with my Gold lol and this is all hypothetical. I’m blessed enough that Chase let me in with a decent SL for me.

Re: Chase CLI Strategy - Road to CSR PC

5/24 shouldn't affect PC.

Edited to add:

And yes, your chances of getting CSR outright is 0, you can't have both CSP and CSR now.

I've seen those DPs as well but I dont think it's common. I'm a fan of asking, otherwise you wont get what you want but it seems a bit hasty for you to try for the CSR now. I really wanted PP access this past year but looking at my travel plans, it didnt look like I was going to use more than 10 lounge visits so I got the Amex Hilton Surpass. It will give you 10 PP passes for the next year (that's a $320 or $420 dollar value for the $99AF + the sign up bonus, depending on how you look at it). It doesnt give you travel insurance but you can purchase a 1 off policy for your trip. This combo will be fairly inexpensive. You can still upgrade to the CSR next year because it's not affected by 5/24. The Surpass can then be downgraded to the no AF Honors version once you get your CSR because most of the perks overlap.

OP wants to get the CSR in December 2020. Since OP opened the CSP in 11/19, it is possible to PC the CSP to a CSR if the CSP has a 10k or higher credit limit. I believe that is what OP is trying to achieve.

I would personally wait 6 months from when you opened the CSP and apply for another Chase card. Your credit profile and score should go up with on time payments and if you keep your utilization low. At that point, apply to another Chase card of your choice. If you get a good credit limit, you can shift some of it around to your CSP.

If you don't have enough CLs pto shift around by 11/20 and your efforts have not yielded you any auto-CLIs at that point, you would need to take a HP CLI chance on your CSP. With two cards, you have more opportunities of an auto-CLI.  For Product Changes, you do not need to be under 5/24 so you can be at 5/24 to PC your CSP to CSR.

If you are interested in a hotel card, you could go for the WOH or perhaps one of the Freedom cards if you want one of those.

Personally, I would go for a CIP for the SUB in early 2020 to get 80k UR while under 5/24. The wait 3 months and get another Chase personal card. Then do what I suggested above.

BTW, the above also is contingent on your income. Rule of thumb (guideline not hard rule) is your CLs with Chase can be around 50% of your total income.

Re: Chase CLI Strategy - Road to CSR PC

Thanks for the insights! I think I’m honestly hoping for Chase to give me a “Just for you” or in branch approval by this coming summer to get around 5/24, so I can move limits around. A manual CLI by around then too if those don’t happen. I don’t think I spend enough to make Chase auto CLI me out of the blue. I’m not close to my theoretical ceiling with Chase so I don’t think it would be an issue.

The HH Surpass Card is always on my mind as a last minute PP card, but I ultimately want to build my Chase setup first.

I am contemplating an Ink Card, don’t you worry Smiley Wink
