Re: Chase CLI?

I don't see much discussion on this, but I think the 5/24 rule applies to CLIs with Chase just like it does with new apps. If you have opened 5 or more new credit cards in the last two years, no CLI. Looks like all five cards in your signature were opened in the last 2 years.

I don't have a link to back that up right at my fingertips. I'm pretty sure I saw a discussion of this somewhere on this forum. Also, there was at least one YouTube video from one of the major credit card guys that talked about it. I can't say it's 100% established fact, because I haven't seen much corroborating evidence, but at least some people believe this is the case, people who know more about the subject than I.

EDIT: I found a link. Mark got this from multiple sources. It appears that all of them got it from Doctor of Credit. DoC had several people who were otherwise well-qualified but were turned down for CLIs due to being over 5/24. We do not know if this is a permanent change to the rule or a temporary measure during the pandemic. If it is temporary, we don't know when it will go away or if it has already.

There were instances were it was cited as denial reason after consumer initiated request.

Re: Chase CLI?

@mgood  I removed the link because it's a link to monetized YouTube channel.

However, even without the link, you're right, there were multiple CLI denials reported here (after HP) for that very reason.

@Anonymous  can do some searching if they feel like it.

Apparently I was editing while you were. Smiley Wink I put the link back, then saw your post and took it back out.

They do sometimes but not at set intervals such as 3, 6, 12 months etc.

Unfortunately, $500 with Chase is barely "squeezed in", so I wouldn't hold my breath for increase.

It might happen, but it's not going to be life changing amount.

Once you address reasons why your approval was for $500 only, and those reasons are no longer present, you'd probably have better luck applying for another one of their cards (if there is one you could use)

I agree with this. I have a freedom card which never grew from 2000 dollars since 2014. Never asked for a cli. Recently got approved for two chase cards back to back days of about 18-20k. I may just end up merging the freedom card into one of them

Re: Chase CLI?

Oh man..I don't have baddies just thin file and too many inquiries and CCs...didn't imagine Chase CCs would be bucketed like CO?! I am NOT going to request CLI, was just waiting for auto CLI, and this is bad new for me 😭 And can't even attempt to apply for another Chase per 5/24 rule. I mean what's more HP at this stage maybe I should just cold app for Amazon, or Delta Gold 😓 for science! 🤷
